Job description
Raytheon is seeking a Software Engineer for a program consisting of a nationwide network of approximately 160 advanced data-collection and processing sites connected through a state-of-the-art communications architecture, enabling highly accurate and timely forecasts. Location: Silver Spring, Maryland, * The ideal candidate will have strong experience in object-oriented development, containerized environments, and modern agile processes.
- Duties consist of root cause analysis and problem resolution with a strong focus on operations and maintenance while maintaining an open line of direct communication with the customer.
- Oversee technical design, development, and implementation of large-scale software products using DevSecOps pipelines.
- Collaborate within an integrated company/customer agile team, engaging with enterprise subject-matter experts.
- Deliver rapid, iterative, high-quality code while maintaining robust engineering practices.
- Provide product demonstrations to teammates, leadership, and customer stakeholders.
- Contribute to architecture definition and support enhancements to design and development standards.
- Consult with management and customers regarding solution feasibility and technical recommendations.
- Integrate emerging technologies and product supportability considerations into design decisions.
- Support technical reviews and ongoing product demonstrations.
- Provide third tier, on and off-call, support for configuration and/or software issues
Requirements
- Typically requires a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of prior engineering experience.
- Experience with presentations.
- Experience with decision-making and adaptability in dynamic environments.
- Experience with Java and Python programming.
- Experience in developing software for meteorological, weather, or environmental applications.
- Experience working with meteorological data formats and standards.
- Experience with Eclipse integrated development environment.
- Experience working in Agile Scrum environments.
- Experience with Linux command line and bash scripting.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Advanced education.
- Experience with (C, Fortran, or others).
- Experience with FOSS technologies including, but not limited to, Camel, Spring Framework, and Hibernate.
- Experience with uframe technology used to support the National Weather Service's software infrastructure.
- Experience with weather system architecture, data ingestion, data processing, visualization, and plugin development.
- RedHat Linux experience.
- Experience with Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, and PostgreSQL database management.
Benefits & conditions
The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
