Job description

The Plastek Group is seeking a PC Technician for the Corporate headquarters Information Technology department located in Erie, PA.

The candidate will be responsible for supporting end users across our corporate offices and manufacturing operations as part of a team of PC technicians and network staff.

This is a hands-on role in a real manufacturing environment - the candidate will work on production floor systems and operator interface hardware alongside standard desktop support, and have exposure to projects most technicians may not see early in a career, including our private on-premise AI platform.

All IT staff are accountable for protecting company information. This role is expected to comply with Plastek's information security and acceptable use policies, follow change and access control procedures, complete assigned security awareness training, and promptly report suspected security incidents., * Provide daily support and maintenance for computers, printers, monitors, and peripherals across office and manufacturing environments.

  • Build, image, upgrade, and troubleshoot desktops and laptops, including hardware, operating systems, and applications.
  • Support shop-floor computing: HMI panels and operator interface terminals, production PCs, thin clients, ruggedized devices, barcode scanners and handhelds, and label printers.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and maintenance staff on production-area equipment, working within change windows to avoid disrupting output.
  • Install and configure software following published standards and documentation.
  • Diagnose and repair inkjet, laser, plotter, and multifunction printers.
  • Maintain accurate asset and inventory records in our IT asset management platform.
  • Create and maintain support documentation and knowledge base articles.
  • Recommend upgrades, repairs, and replacements to support planning and budget cycles.
  • Evaluate new technology and document findings and recommendations.
  • Order hardware and software and maintain stock of standard equipment.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and responsible use of all access, documents and intellectual property.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent technical school training
  • 2+ years of experience with Windows 11 and/or Windows Server
  • 3+ years of experience in computer hardware maintenance and configuration, * Practical understanding of Active Directory, domain accounts, NTFS permissions, and file shares
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 for end users
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals, IP configuration, and basic network troubleshooting
  • Experience with remote support tools (RDP, VNC, TeamViewer, or similar)
  • Experience building PCs, cloning drives, and building custom images
  • Effective problem-solving, analytical, and technical writing skills
  • Ability to prioritize a mixed workload and communicate status clearly
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation between Erie-area facilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CompTIA A+ and/or MCDST certification
  • Experience supporting a manufacturing or industrial environment, including HMIs or production floor systems
  • Linux desktop administration - Linux is in active use across our environment
  • Endpoint imaging and deployment tooling (MDT, SCCM, Intune, or similar)
  • Endpoint security agent administration (Trend Micro or comparable)
  • Familiarity with SAP, HCL Notes, Adobe products, AutoCAD, or PTC Creo
  • CompTIA Network+ or Microsoft endpoint certifications
  • Comfort using AI assistants responsibly as productivity tools, Mental demands: problem-solving, evaluating, interpreting, analyzing, planning, documenting, coordinating, implementing, presenting; work under time pressure.

Physical demands: sitting, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting to 50 lbs., bending, keyboarding, pulling, pushing, carrying, walking, operating equipment; considerable manual dexterity with tools.

Environmental conditions: office and manufacturing environments, working around moving machinery, working at heights, working independently. Personal protective equipment is required in designated production areas., * Microsoft Windows Server: 1 year (Preferred)
