Job description
Role Overview This position is a Data and Automation Engineer in the Digital Innovation and Operational Services Chapter within Roche R&D.The engineer will build a robust and scalable data foundation to support the organization's transition to Agentic AI, bridge technical data engineering with business process analysis, and deliver automated, data?driven solutions across global R&D teams.Key Responsibilities Data Insights & Solution Delivery: support the utilization of accumulated R&D data in the internal tool ecosystem, promote standardization, and own data products for central analytics.Data Modernization: drive migration of data from legacy systems to modern architectures to ensure scalability and performance.Agentic AI Readiness: combine technical knowledge in Agentic AI and data architecture to build a foundation that supports intelligent agents and advanced automation.Business Process Analysis & Requirements Engineering: act as a bridge between technical teams and business units to analyze, map, and define requirements for specific use cases in support of digitalisation initiatives.Strategic Insights: generate and communicate data?driven insights and visualizations to support high?level strategic business decisions.Compliance & Validation: ensure compliance with risk management, data and system regulations in collaboration with experts.Global Collaboration: participate in global teams across R&D, collaborating with scientists, engineers, and IT professionals in Spain, the US, Germany, and Switzerland.Operate with limited guidance: develop and maintain awareness of Roche organization and key organizational drivers, perform assignments with moderate guidance.Basic Qualifications Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.Experience: 3-5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, automation, or a similar technical role.Technical Skills: programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or C#; SQL and NoSQL database management; familiarity with ETL/ELT processes and data integration tools.Language: Excellent command of English.German language skills are a plus.Global Flexibility: ability to support a flexible schedule across multiple time zones (primarily CET and PST).Travel: occasional travel, up to 1 week, 1-2 times per year to other Roche sites in the US and Europe.Desired Skillsets & Experience Industry Knowledge: experience working in Diagnostics or other highly regulated environments.Regulatory Context Exposure: design control, formal system engineering and product development processes.Enterprise Platforms: familiarity with SAP S/4HANA, Workday or Cornerstone for data extraction and workflow automation.R&D Tools: electronic Lab Notebook, LIMS, equipment/asset management systems.AI & Automation: hands?on experience with large language models, Agentic AI frameworks, or conversational AI interfaces.Cloud Architecture: knowledge of cloud?based data warehouses such as Snowflake and cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).Communication: ability to translate complex technical findings into actionable business insights for non?technical stakeholders.Who You Are You are a proactive problem?solver who thrives in a multicultural environment.You are not just a coder; you are a thinker who understands the business impact of data, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and committed to continuous learning in the rapidly evolving AI and automation landscape.Equal Opportunity Employer Roche is an Equal Opportunity Employer.#J-*****-Ljbffr
