Our client, a global leader in advanced autonomous and robotic solutions across multiple industries, is seeking a System Software Engineer II to develop and maintain the foundational software that powers advanced robotic and autonomous systems. This role bridges embedded firmware and higher-level application software, building and supporting the operating system, middleware, and core software services that enable reliable, high-performance robotic platforms. The ideal candidate has strong Linux systems experience, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and is comfortable working directly with hardware to validate software in real-world environments., * Develop and maintain system software using Rust, C++, and Python.
- Support and enhance Linux-based operating systems, including Ubuntu and Yocto.
- Design and maintain software that bridges embedded firmware with higher-level robotic applications.
- Develop tools that improve system performance, observability, stability, and fleet scalability.
- Debug complex, multi-threaded issues across firmware, operating systems, perception, and application software.
- Collaborate closely with firmware, perception, and application engineering teams to deliver robust platform functionality.
- Validate software changes directly on robotic hardware and support field testing as needed.
- Continuously evaluate and adopt new technologies to improve platform performance and maintainability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience developing production software in a compiled language such as Rust, C++, Go, Java, or C.
- Experience developing and maintaining Linux-based systems in production environments.
- Experience designing, supporting, and troubleshooting complex software systems.
- Strong debugging skills across multi-threaded and distributed software environments.
- Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar systems and solve challenging technical problems.
- Comfortable working hands-on with robotic or embedded hardware to verify software functionality.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional engineering environment., * Professional experience with Rust in production environments.
- Experience developing software for robotics, autonomous vehicles, embedded systems, or other real-time platforms.
- Familiarity with embedded Linux, firmware integration, CAN-based communications, or hardware abstraction layers.
- Experience with cloud-connected systems, telemetry, or fleet management platforms.
- Experience working in Agile development environments with modern CI/CD pipelines and Git-based version control.
- Exposure to AI technology is a big plus.
