Job description
What You'll Do Lead UX/UI design for next-generation software capabilities supporting U.S. Army modernization initiatives.

Collaborate with Product Owners, Technical Program Managers, Engineering Leads, Software Engineers, DevSecOps, Cybersecurity Specialists, and Army stakeholders to define user experience goals and design standards.

Conduct user research, interviews, workshops, and usability studies with Army personnel to understand mission workflows, operational challenges, and decision-making needs.

Translate complex operational processes into intuitive user journeys, task flows, information architectures, and interaction designs.

Design wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, interactive prototypes, and production-ready user interface specifications.

Develop and maintain a scalable design system including reusable components, typography, color standards, accessibility guidelines, and interaction patterns.

Design intuitive interfaces that visualize operational data, geospatial information, Common Operating Pictures (COPs), task management, AI-assisted recommendations, and mission planning workflows.

Partner closely with Software Engineers to ensure designs are technically feasible, performant, and optimized for secure cloud-native applications.

Participate in Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.

Conduct usability testing with Army users and incorporate operational feedback into iterative design improvements.

Create UX artifacts including user personas, journey maps, workflow diagrams, storyboards, and design documentation.

Support customer demonstrations, executive briefings, pilot deployments, and operational evaluations through compelling interface prototypes and visualizations.

Help establish scalable UX practices, design standards, and reusable design assets that support future software development efforts.
Requirements

Active Secret security clearance is required.

Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.

5+ years of experience as a UX/UI Designer, Product Designer, or similar role supporting complex software products.

Experience designing modern web-based applications using user-centered design principles.

Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous operational requirements into intuitive user experiences.

Expertise with Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or comparable design and prototyping tools.

Experience collaborating with Product Owners, Software Engineers, and cross-functional Agile teams.

Strong understanding of user-centered design, interaction design, visual design, accessibility, and responsive design principles.

Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

Strong visual design skills with exceptional attention to usability, clarity, consistency, and information hierarchy.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, including experience presenting designs to technical teams and senior stakeholders.
Desired Skills

Experience designing software products for the Department of Defense or other federal government customers.

Familiarity with Army operations, Mission Command systems, Protection operations, or Command and Control applications.

Experience designing geospatial applications, Common Operating Pictures (COPs), GIS-enabled interfaces, operational dashboards, or map-centric workflows.

Experience designing user experiences for AI-enabled software applications, including decision support tools, generative AI capabilities, or intelligent workflow automation.

Familiarity with cloud-native software architectures, containerized applications, DevSecOps practices, and secure software delivery methodologies.

Experience collaborating closely with front-end engineers using React, TypeScript, or similar modern web technologies.

Understanding of secure software deployment environments including RMF, Authority to Operate (ATO), and IL5/IL6 environments.

Prior experience supporting operational military users, software fielding activities, or forward deployed engineering teams.
