Job description
As a Junior Data Analyst, you will support data analysis and product development, developing your skills by working closely with other data professionals. You will support us to deliver insight by helping to maintain and improve our existing data dashboards and reports that have been published across the council. You will support Data Analysts and BI Developers in the development and delivery of new data reporting and insight products. The role will help you develop your skills in data analytics and reporting by working closely with other data professionals to build effective data products. You will support the delivery of BI tools and projects, develop analytical approaches and data visualisations under the supervision of other members of the team Accountabilities: This roles focus on the delivery of products and insight for council functional areas - particularly data products with a front end such as data dashboards and reports. The role will focus on:

Support the design, build and testing of interactive, automated data dashboards and reports using ECC'S BI software of choice, with guidance on user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) principles.

Maintain and update existing dashboards as directed by senior team members. Identify relevant data sources and support data transformation activities for reporting, working closely with BI Developers and senior analysts.

Gather and document requirements by working with stakeholders and colleagues to inform the development of reporting solutions and ideas.

Work with Analysts to identify data required to build dashboards or reports and understand subject matter datasets and system.

Assist Analysts and stakeholders in understanding reports and conduct basic data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and consistency of reports, escalating issues where needed.

Help create and update documentation and user guides for dashboards and reports to support user understanding and adoption.

Learn and apply version control practices (e.g., using Git or VS Code) to manage BI assets and ensure consistency across reporting products.

Provide support to business users, including answering queries, helping with dashboard navigation, and reviewing access permissions under supervision.

Document and share work clearly, contributing to knowledge sharing within the performance analysis community and promoting transparency and reuse.

Engage in learning and development, building understanding of analytical tools, techniques, and the wider performance context, while contributing to team discussions and communities of practice

- Awareness of SQL concepts for querying and exploring data sources (hands-on experience desirable but not essential).
- Strong attention to detail when performing data checks and documenting findings.
- Good communication skills to work effectively with team members and stakeholders.
