Job description

We are looking to recruit a JavaScript / Node.js Developer to join a long-term, fully funded Central Government programme based in Manchester.

You will work within a collaborative software engineering team, designing, developing and deploying secure, business-critical applications within a modern containerised environment.

This is a hybrid role requiring onsite attendance in Manchester two to three days per week. Travel expenses will be covered through an agreed travel allowance.

The role

You will be involved across the full software development lifecycle, with a particular focus on developing back-end services using JavaScript and Node.js and deploying applications within an OpenShift and Kubernetes environment.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining secure software applications and services
  • Developing back-end services and APIs using JavaScript and Node.js
  • Deploying and supporting applications within OpenShift and Kubernetes environments
  • Working with Docker and containerised applications
  • Producing clean, maintainable and well-tested code
  • Troubleshooting issues across development, test and production environments
  • Supporting continuous integration and deployment processes
  • Contributing to technical discussions and engineering decisions
  • Collaborating with developers, testers, platform engineers and other stakeholders
  • Promoting software engineering best practice across the team

Essential experience

Candidates should have strong commercial software development experience, including:

  • JavaScript
  • Node.js
  • OpenShift
  • Kubernetes
  • Docker
  • CI/CD tooling
  • Developing APIs, services or microservice-based applications
  • Working within Agile software delivery teams

You should also have experience developing and supporting enterprise-level applications within containerised environments.

Additional experience

Requirements

Applicants must already hold active SC clearance and be willing and eligible to undergo DV clearance if required.

Candidates must be able to work within a secure Central Government environment from the beginning of the role. Unfortunately, applicants without active SC clearance cannot be considered.
