Job description
This is a great next step for a Design Engineer with around two years' experience in a similar technical design role.
You will produce high-quality production and client drawings for our picture rail systems and customisations of our standard collection, ensuring drawings are accurate, efficient and ready for manufacture.
Working across Sales, Engineering and Production, you will manage multiple projects at once, delivering technical solutions that balance customer requirements, production feasibility and project budgets. You may also occasionally assist with production drawings for bespoke projects as workload requires.

- Produce accurate production and client drawings using SolidWorks CAD software.
- Own the technical drawing process for our picture rail range and customisations of standard products.
- Create clear manufacturing documentation, installation instructions and supporting technical information where required.
- Ensure drawings are completed accurately, efficiently and to agreed timescales.
- Produce engineering solutions that balance design intent, production feasibility and project budgets.
- Consider manufacturing methods, materials and production costs when developing drawings and technical solutions.
- Identify opportunities to simplify designs and improve manufacturing efficiency while maintaining quality and functionality.
- Review and amend drawings where necessary before issue to production.
- Maintain drawing standards and identify opportunities to improve drawing processes, efficiency and consistency.
- Support bespoke project work by producing production drawings when required.
- Update the Collier Webb job management system, maintaining accurate drawing records and project documentation.
Project Coordination
- Manage several projects simultaneously while maintaining excellent attention to detail.
- Liaise regularly with the Sales team to understand customer requirements and provide technical support where needed.
- Work closely with the Engineering Manager and Production team to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, commercially viable and delivered on schedule.
- Work within agreed project budgets, ensuring engineering decisions support commercial objectives.
- Identify cost-effective manufacturing solutions without compromising quality, functionality or customer requirements.
- Participate in engineering handover and project review meetings where appropriate.
- Ensure all drawing revisions and project documentation are accurately recorded.
- Obtain multiple quotations from subcontractors to ensure the project budget is met.
- Ensure that any required specialist subcontracted items for the project are ordered in time for project manufacturing.
- Inform the production scheduler of subcontracted item arrival date via our inhouse production management system.
Compliance & Quality
- Produce drawings that comply with relevant manufacturing, electrical and health & safety requirements.
- Ensure installation and maintenance information is provided where applicable.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and quality across all technical documentation.
Requirements
You're a proactive, organised Design Engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges and collaborating across departments and with external subcontractors. You manage your own workload with confidence, think commercially, and want to take ownership of improving how technical drawings are produced.
You balance technical requirements, aesthetics, manufacturability and budget constraints, and you're always looking for better ways of working. Occasional attendance at meetings or industry events may be required.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Approximately two years' experience in a Design Engineer, CAD Engineer or similar technical design role.
- Strong SolidWorks CAD skills.
- Experience producing detailed manufacturing and production drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Commercial awareness, with an understanding of how design decisions impact manufacturing costs, lead times and project profitability.
- Confident communicator, able to work effectively with colleagues across Sales, Engineering and Production.
- Good working knowledge of Google Workspace or Microsoft Office.
Desirable
- Experience within luxury furniture, lighting, architectural hardware or a manufacturing environment.
- Experience creating installation guides or technical documentation.
- Knowledge of 3D printing technologies.
