Job description

Under general supervision, troubleshoots the more complex problems encountered by county users; performs the more complex maintenance and repairs and replacement of computer components, software, and other special computer products; and performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Technology Services Department but is assigned to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office. Requirements

Two years of full-time experience in a technology support position AND a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in information technology or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

License Or Certificate A valid driver's license is required at the time of application and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification

The Ideal Candidate will demonstrate

  • Extensive experience supporting enterprise Service Desk operations in a complex organization.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills with a proven track record of resolving difficult technical issues independently.
  • Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills that reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency.
  • Experience working in a mission-critical public safety environment, preferably supporting dispatch operations, law enforcement, or emergency communications.
  • Familiarity with ProQA, Octave, Carbyne, RapidSOS, Computer Aided Dispatch, or other public safety technologies.
  • An ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor less experienced technicians, and serve as the senior escalation point for complex incidents.
  • Experience administering or working extensively with ITSM platforms such as HaloITSM, ServiceNow, or similar systems, with an understanding of ITIL best practices.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with evidence of developing documentation, standardizing processes, automating repetitive tasks, and introducing innovative solutions that improve service delivery.
  • CompTIA A+, Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), and/or ITIL Foundation certifications are a plus., * Reading Comprehension

  • Dependent health insurance coverage, Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Per the Washoe County Background and Reference Checks Policy, new and rehired employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation. Effective January 1, 2025, the $39.00 fee associated with this background investigation will be paid by the employee (if applicable) and deducted automatically from the first paycheck. Employment is contingent upon the results of the background check, although a record of conviction will not necessarily bar an applicant from employment.

For positions at the Sheriff's Office, after the interview, top candidates must pass a background investigation which includes:

  • Submit a set of fingerprints
  • Complete and submit a personal history statement
  • Pass a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) examination

Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.

Washoe County hires all new employees at the minimum rate of the salary range and eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification. Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.
