Job description
The Systems Engineer facilitates the operation and upkeep of essential Windows and Linux servers and services, ensuring the reliability and security of core university infrastructure in support of the academic and administrative mission of Eastern Mennonite University. Technical Environment:

- Virtualization: VMWare, Microsoft, AWS AppStream, HyperV

- Access Control: Genetec
- Emergency Communications: Rave, Alertus, * Administering and monitoring all physical and virtual infrastructure components, including Windows and Linux servers, KVMs, storage arrays, and backup systems
- Server and system patch management
- Operation and upkeep of campus network computer systems
- Disaster recovery planning
- Creating and deploying automation scripts to enhance operational efficiency and minimize manual intervention
- Collaborating on systems architecture and design, with a focus on scalability, security, and long-term operational simplicity
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting escalation support
- Implementing and enforcing security policies and protocols, including identity management, endpoint protection, and least privilege access principles
- Creating and maintaining system documentation
- Conducting regular system audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices
- Spearheading and managing technical initiatives involving infrastructure enhancements, migrations, and the deployment of new systems, While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel. The employee must have manual dexterity for working with computer components. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds when carrying equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee must occasionally travel to meetings and conferences off campus, which may include some overnight travel.
Requirements
- Experience managing a Windows domain
- Strong knowledge of network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and routing protocols
- Proven proficiency in the administration, configuration, and optimization of enterprise virtualization platforms
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python
- Proven proficiency in the administration and optimization of enterprise-scale backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Strong knowledge of authentication, MS MFA and MS SSO
- Proven ability to apply foundational project management principles to technical initiatives involving infrastructure enhancements and deployments

- Proven excellence in complex analytical assessment and technical troubleshooting., Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or similar field; or equivalent work experience. A minimum of four (4) years of experience in technical computer-related roles, with a specific focus on administering an enterprise network environment supporting over 1,500 devices and 3,000 users.
