WordPress/WooCommerce Web Developer

• Develop, maintain and improve multiple WordPress/WooCommerce sites, including our in-house custom plugins
• Extend WooCommerce functionality for trade and tiered pricing, customer groups, delivery-date and courier logic, subscriptions, recurring orders, bulk ordering and reorder tools
• Build internal web tools that improve business operations, such as sales order entry and other staff-facing front ends over our ERP and business data
• Build integrations and automations between systems using Flowgear, REST APIs and webhooks, connecting WooCommerce, our ERP and stock system, courier platforms and marketing tools
• Work within our structured release process using Git, semantic versioning, changelogs and staging-first deployments
• Write and optimise SQL against MySQL for product data, reporting, bulk updates and clean-up, and support product imports and feeds
• Test WooCommerce core, theme and plugin updates on staging, and triage and fix front-line site issues
• Own front-end quality, including responsive layouts, Core Web Vitals, page speed and accessibility
• Support marketing with landing pages, campaign builds and on-page SEO

• Zapier, We are Peregrine, the UKs largest wholesaler of reptile products and live foods, running multiple WooCommerce sites across our trade and consumer brands. We build and maintain much of our own e-commerce functionality, including delivery-date logic, courier cut-offs, shipping exclusions, subscriptions and trade pricing, as well as internal tools connected to our Syspro ERP and automated workflows. You will work closely with our senior web developer and ERP developer in a small, senior team with direct access to the people who built these systems. This is a hybrid role with site working 3 days a week, based in Epping and Ongar CM5. • 3+ years building commercially with WordPress, including 2+ years deep in WooCommerce
• Strong across PHP, JavaScript, HTML and CSS
• Proven experience customising WooCommerce with hooks, filters, custom endpoints and custom plugins
• Disciplined use of Git, including branches, meaningful commits, versioned releases and staging-first workflows
• Confident with SQL beyond basic SELECTs, including joins, aggregates and careful bulk updates
• Comfortable working independently across multiple brands and explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical colleagues
• Ability to reliably commute to Ongar CM5 for a hybrid role with on-site working 3 days a week
