Job description

  • Help transition the organization from an outdated CAB-driven deployment process to modern Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD).
  • Partner with engineering teams to ensure repositories meet the requirements for automated deployments, including unit testing and deployment readiness.
  • Build and enhance GitLab CI/CD pipelines that support automated testing, deployment, and rollback capabilities.
  • Support the organization''s initiative to move toward a model where every merge to the main branch automatically deploys.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Pulumi (Preferred) How Applied:

  • Support and enhance Infrastructure as Code solutions within a multi-account AWS environment.
  • Build reusable infrastructure components and deployment patterns that help standardize engineering practices.
  • Assist with scaling platform modernization initiatives as repositories are migrated to modern CI/CD workflows.
  • Note: Pulumi experience is strongly preferred, as it is the organization''s current Infrastructure-as-Code platform. However, the hiring manager indicated he would consider candidates with strong experience in comparable IaC technologies such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation. The priority is finding the right engineer with strong automation and DevOps fundamentals who can help accelerate the organization''s CI/CD transformation efforts.

AWS Cloud Engineering (5+ years) How Applied:

  • Support cloud infrastructure and deployments across a multi-account AWS environment.
  • Work with services including ECS/Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway, IAM, ECR, S3, and CloudFront.
  • Implement secure, scalable, and reliable deployment practices aligned with modern DevOps principles.

GitLab & Source Control Management How Applied:

  • Manage and optimize GitLab repositories, merge request workflows, and deployment automation.
  • Help engineering teams adopt branch-driven development practices and automated deployment standards.
  • Support the transition from traditional release processes to merge-request-based deployment governance.

Continuous Improvement Mindset & AI-Assisted Engineering How Applied:

  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and improve engineering efficiency.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and problem-solving.
  • Continually evaluate new technologies and processes that improve the developer experience and platform capabilities.

Key Attributes:

  • Curious, growth-minded engineer who is still actively learning and exploring new technologies.
  • Not a "click ops" engineer; seeks to automate and improve existing processes.
  • Comfortable challenging the status quo and bringing forward new ideas.
  • Excited about AI-first engineering practices and willing to adopt the best tools available, even as technologies evolve.

Secondary Skills - Nice to Haves

  • Devops
  • Continuous integration, The client is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join its growing platform engineering organization during a critical modernization initiative led by newly assembled technology leadership. This individual will play a key role in transforming the company''s software delivery processes from a traditional CAB-driven deployment model to a modern, automated CI/CD ecosystem built on GitLab, AWS, and Infrastructure as Code.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on execution rather than architecture ownership. The vision, roadmap, and proof of concept have already been established; the team now needs an engineer who can help scale those solutions across the enterprise and accelerate adoption among engineering teams.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Modernizing deployment processes by replacing manual release approvals and promotions with automated CI/CD workflows.
  • Expanding and supporting Infrastructure as Code practices within a multi-account AWS environment using Pulumi and GitLab.
  • Working with engineering teams to prepare repositories for continuous deployment readiness, including testing and pipeline requirements.
  • Driving automation initiatives that reduce operational overhead and eliminate manual "click ops" activities.
  • Leveraging AI-assisted engineering tools and identifying opportunities to improve developer productivity through automation and emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Experience working within organizations undergoing large-scale DevOps and platform modernization initiatives. This role will support the rollout of an already proven CI/CD model across multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience partnering with application development teams to prepare repositories for deployment readiness, including helping teams meet testing and deployment requirements necessary for continuous delivery.
  • Familiarity with automated deployment patterns including branch-driven deployments, merge request workflows, automated environment promotion, and rollback strategies.
  • Experience supporting AWS services such as ECS/Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFront, S3, and related cloud infrastructure components.
  • Understanding of secure deployment practices including IAM, least-privilege access, OIDC-based authentication, and secrets management.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools and a willingness to leverage emerging technologies to improve engineering productivity and automation efforts, as the organization is actively investing in AI-first engineering practices.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work directly with engineering teams to drive adoption of new processes and platform standards.
  • Continuous learner who enjoys exploring new technologies, improving existing processes, and contributing ideas that increase efficiency and scalability.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with significant organizational investment in cloud transformation, automation, and modern software delivery practices
  • Employee Value Proposition (EVP)
