Job description

We are looking for an AI Engineer to join a state government client remotely in EST. This role will support the ongoing operation, modernization, and expansion of AI-enabled applications for multiple state agencies, working with highly confidential and regulated financial and examination data. The AI Engineer will serve in a hands-on technical capacity, developing, enhancing, and maintaining modern AI-powered applications and supporting services using Python and web frameworks such as FastAPI. This individual will deploy, configure, monitor, and troubleshoot solutions within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, leveraging services such as App Service, Storage Accounts, and Key Vault while utilizing Git-based source control and pull request workflows. Operating in an AI-assisted software development environment, the analyst will use modern coding assistants as a core part of the development lifecycle, directing AI tools, validating outputs, and delivering reliable production-ready solutions. The role will partner closely with customers, business stakeholders, and the Connecticut AI Lab to analyze requirements, design and implement application enhancements, develop data flows and integrations, document technical processes, evaluate emerging technologies, and ensure secure development practices for applications handling sensitive data. The ideal candidate will be capable of taking solutions from initial intake through deployment while contributing to the advancement of AI capabilities across Connecticut state government.

Requirements

5+ years of experience as an AI Engineer or related role 5+ years of software development experience with strong proficiency in Python. Experience developing and supporting web applications using frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django. Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining applications in Microsoft Azure, including App Service, Storage, Key Vault, and related cloud services. Experience using Git, source control best practices, and pull-request-based development workflows. Understanding of AI-assisted software development tools and the ability to leverage, validate, and troubleshoot AI-generated code. Knowledge of secure application development practices and experience working with confidential, regulated, or sensitive data environments.
