Job description

  • Serve as the sole Oracle Database Administrator supporting a mission-critical Oracle 19c environment (approx. 10-12 databases) underpinning the company''s pricing architecture, which feeds retail stores, e-commerce, and core business systems.
  • Administer a 4-node Oracle RAC environment, including Grid Infrastructure and Oracle Clusterware.
  • Design, implement, and support Oracle Data Guard (physical and logical standby databases), including Data Guard Broker configuration and switchover/failover execution.
  • Perform installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades of Oracle 19c using OPatch and Release Updates (RUs).
  • Own backup and recovery operations using RMAN, including point-in-time recovery, tablespace recovery, and database duplication/cloning.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune database performance using AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Trace, and execution plans; perform advanced SQL/PL/SQL tuning.
  • Administer ASM and manage storage across SAN, NAS, and/or cloud platforms.
  • Manage security administration, including auditing, least-privilege access, and user/role/profile management.
  • Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and production problem resolution, including 24x7 on-call support as needed.
  • Support secondary platforms as capacity allows: SQL Server (parts catalog systems) and, to a lesser degree, MySQL/PostgreSQL.
  • Perform bug fixes and small enhancements to existing Ansible playbooks (OS-level and DBA-task automation) - modification only, not playbook design from scratch. Full support available from DBA and Linux teams for underlying OS/DBA design decisions.
  • Maintain solid operational documentation, including runbooks and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with application, infrastructure, security, and operations teams.

Requirements

We are seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator to take ownership of a highly available, enterprise Oracle environment that supports critical business operations. This individual will serve as the primary Oracle DBA, ensuring the stability, security, performance, and recoverability of mission-critical databases while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support ongoing business needs. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical expert with deep Oracle 19c experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and the confidence to work independently in a fast-paced, high-availability environment., * Expert-level administration of Oracle Database 19c in large-scale, mission-critical production environments.

  • Deep expertise with Oracle RAC architecture, administration, and troubleshooting (client environment runs 4 nodes).
  • Hands-on Data Guard experience - must have actually executed a live failover (not just tested in a lower/non-prod environment); DR-test-level live failover experience is acceptable and valuable.
  • Strong RMAN backup/recovery experience, including PITR and recovery validation.
  • Advanced SQL/PL/SQL performance tuning and use of AWR/ASH/ADDM diagnostic tools.
  • Linux administration with strong command-line scripting ability (Bash, Python, Perl, or similar).
  • Ability to modify existing Ansible playbooks for bug fixes and small enhancements (writing from scratch not required).
  • A scrappy, persistent, self-sufficient technical mindset - this person will be the company''s only Oracle resource with no onshore backup, so they must be comfortable troubleshooting independently under pressure. Strong interview focus will be on real problem-solving and troubleshooting stories.
  • Strong documentation habits and ability to build/maintain operational runbooks.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation for a 24x7, mission-critical environment with 99.99%+ uptime requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills - able to work cross-functionally with infrastructure, security, and application teams.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • SQL Server administration experience (top secondary "kicker" - supports the parts catalog and related revenue-generating systems).
  • MySQL and/or PostgreSQL experience (secondary kickers).
  • Terraform experience may be an acceptable substitute/complement for Ansible depth - a strong technologist who can pick up adjacent tooling quickly is valued over rigid Ansible-only experience.
  • Oracle GoldenGate experience (replication, zero-downtime migrations).
  • Cloud/virtualization platform experience (OCI, AWS, Azure, or VMware).
  • Prior experience mentoring junior DBAs or establishing operational best practices.
  • Experience with Oracle Multitenant (CDB/PDB) architecture.
