Job description
- Design, develop, and deploy distributed Go services for our device platform
- Build real-time ingest, geospatial processing, on-device geofencing, time-series persistence, and a real-time web UI
- Engineer reliable systems capable of supporting 20,000 to 30,000 concurrent devices
- Build safety-relevant, low-latency delivery paths where correctness is critical
- Parse and generate binary device protocols and integrate IoT hardware over UDP and TCP
- Provide technical leadership within an agile squad
- Help the team devise elegant solutions to strategic business and technical challenges
- Maximise quality and return on investment through effective technical decisions
- Act as a subject matter expert for Go, distributed systems, NATS/JetStream, and our AWS/Azure cloud and Kubernetes environments

Requirements
- Strong, production-grade Go experience, including concurrency, back-pressure, profiling, and clean, well-tested code
- Experience building distributed or event-driven systems at scale using a message broker such as NATS, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar
- Solid PostgreSQL experience, with an ability to reason about query cost and schema trade-offs
- Comfortable operating in Kubernetes and working with Terraform or equivalent infrastructure-as-code across AWS and/or Azure
- Confident reading and implementing binary or wire protocols, including bytes, endianness, checksums, and IoT hardware integration
- Strong debugging instincts for concurrency and distributed systems issues such as races, deadlocks, split-brain, and back-pressure
- Strong accountability, ownership, attention to detail, and a commitment to high standards of work
- Ability to work proactively, handle uncertainty, and manage work without close supervision
- Ability to work autonomously and remotely where required, and as part of a team including overseas colleagues
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong team player who values continuous learning and is happy to mentor and support others
- Ability to apply structured thinking and simplify complex problems
- Experience with actor-model or supervision-tree systems such as Ergo, Erlang/OTP, Akka, or similar is highly advantageous
- Experience with IoT, GNSS, GPS, RTK telemetry, or geospatial platforms is highly advantageous
- Understanding of electronics design, radio, and telecommunications is highly advantageous
- Right to work in the UK is required; sponsorship is not available
