The Akamai Defense team works across Akamai's technology stack. We strive to build and operate custom world-class systems and services for our Public Sector customers. Our Network Operations Command Center (NOCC) manages, monitors, and maintains Akamai's remote servers and network infrastructure.

As a Platform Operations Engineer II, you will be responsible for:
- Monitoring, troubleshooting, and correcting emerging platform problems through an alert driven workflow, emails, and phone calls
- Collaborating with Engineers, System Architects, Infrastructure Vendors, and Customers to isolate problems, achieve resolution, and improve the operational stability of the platform
- Updating and patching system software components and configurations
- Documenting work performed in the trouble ticketing system for communication and review/learning purposes clearly and effectively
- Developing and maintaining documentation, procedures and tools
Requirements
- Have 5 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree or it's equivalent work experience
- Demonstrate experience administering UNIX-based operating systems
- Demonstrate experience working with fault detection, troubleshooting, trouble ticketing, escalation, and other related operational concepts and processes
- Be able to understand and write SQL queries and show understanding of the following protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, and HTTP
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, high level of attention to detail, excellent timeliness and dependability
- Have an active Secret security clearance
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of issues through resolution
- Be able to work onsite Monday through Friday at our Cambridge, MA office
Benefits & conditions
Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $77,500 - $139,500/year; a candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
