Job description

Tyson Foods is seeking a motivated and curious Data Engineer I to join the Inventory Optimization organization. Inventory Optimization brings together Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Enterprise Inventory Management (EIM), and Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) into one department focused on improving inventory visibility, data quality, operational efficiency, working capital performance, and enterprise value creation.

This is a foundational career-development position designed for individuals who are eager to learn, solve problems, and build expertise across business, technology, finance, operations, and data management disciplines. Successful candidates are not expected to enter the role with expertise in every area of responsibility. Instead, they will be provided opportunities to learn through hands-on execution, mentorship, project participation, and exposure to multiple business functions.

The Data Engineer I will support data, systems, reporting, governance, and business process activities associated with assets, direct materials, work-in-process, finished goods, packaging, spare parts, operational supplies, and related financial information. This role works closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Finance, Procurement, and Information Technology teams to ensure enterprise data remains accurate, reliable, and actionable.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys learning, seeks diverse experiences, and wants to build a career at the intersection of operations, inventory management, engineering, finance, analytics, and technology., · Support inventory, asset, and operational data management activities across EAM, EIM, and MRO business processes.

· Assist with data validation, reconciliation, correction, and reporting activities.

· Maintain master data records in SAP and connected systems according to established standards.

· Support business users with reporting, system questions, issue resolution, and application support activities.

· Participate in inventory optimization, data quality, governance, analytics, and process improvement initiatives.

· Help document business processes, system configurations, standards, and procedures.

· Assist with dashboard creation, report development, and analysis that support operational and financial decision-making.

Collaboration and Development

· Collaborate with team members and business partners to complete assigned projects, support day-to-day operations, and communicate findings effectively.

· Learn and apply data, systems, and business knowledge to support inventory optimization initiatives across Finance, Operations, Maintenance, Engineer, and IT

· Contribute to a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and improvement through curiosity, clear communication, and reliable execution.

Requirements

Education/Certifications: Bachelor's degree preferred in Supply Chain, Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Finance, Accounting, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will also be considered.

Experience: 0-2 years of relevant work experience. College projects will be considered.

Computer Skills: Above-standard computer skills needed. Prior SAP experience is not required, and candidates are not expected to arrive fluent in asset accounting, maintenance operations, or inventory management. A demonstrated willingness to learn SAP S/4HANA and the business processes behind it is essential. Foundational data handling skills such as advanced Excel, introductory SQL, or exposure to Python, with genuine interest in analytics platforms including Power BI, Palantir, or Tableau. AI platforms exposure preferred.

Special Skills: Interest in manufacturing, supply chain, or asset-intensive environments, and a desire to understand how fixed assets, direct materials, and spare parts drive cost, cash, and capital decisions. Strong attention to detail, disciplined follow-through, and the judgment to escalate a question early rather than proceed on an assumption.
