Job description

We are looking for an Integration Architect to design and oversee the seamless assembly of off-the-shelf (COTS) components into a unified NATO C2 platform for NATO air and missile defense systems. This broad role encompasses designing architectures, data flows, APIs, and middleware to achieve full interoperability in dev, test, and operational environments. We welcome professionals from adjacent areas including cloud integration in commercial sectors, IoT systems in manufacturing, software integration in fintech, or government IT modernization, where expertise in connecting disparate mission critical systems is key. Responsibilities span the system engineering and experimentation lifecycle, including planning, implementation, and testing in labs, during exercises, and in simulated battle scenarios. Applicable standards include MIL-STD and NATO STANAG. Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Junior Level: Assist in designing and documenting basic integration patterns and interfaces using tools like Postman or Apache Camel; support data mapping, schema definitions, and API specifications; participate in initial integration testing, debugging, and documentation; contribute to troubleshooting compatibility issues under supervision; help maintain integration artifacts in repositories like Git; collaborate on basic interoperability assessments for multi-component configurations.
  • Mid Level (Building on Junior): Develop detailed integration architectures and microservices environments; create comprehensive roadmaps for component interoperability aligned with NATO's operational requirements; lead integration efforts in development and test environments including API gateway configurations; analyze performance metrics, scalability needs, and resolve complex interoperability challenges; collaborate on CI/CD pipelines for integration automation; facilitate reviews with stakeholders to ensure alignment with system objectives.
  • Senior Level (Building on Mid): Architect resilient system-of-systems integrations compliant with advanced standards like STANAG 4559 and DoD protocols; oversee fault-tolerance, security integration, and scalability designs for high- stakes defense applications; direct cross-functional teams in battle labs and operational exercises; provide specialized expertise on emerging integration technologies (e.g., event-driven architectures, Kafka); adapt integration strategies from adjacent fields like commercial cloud services to defense contexts; mentor on best practices for sustainable integration governance and continuous optimization.

Requirements

Required (All Levels): Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field; NATO Nation citizenship and National security clearance (active clearance preferred).

  • Junior Level: 3 years of experience in system integration, software development, or IT architecture; basic certifications like AWS Certified Developer Associate or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals.
  • Mid-Level (Building on Junior): 5 years, including experience in defense, aerospace, or enterprise integration projects; TOGAF Certified or Certified Integration Architect; knowledge of NATO or DoD integration standards.
  • Senior Level (Building on Mid): 7 years in aerospace/defense or complex integrations; Certified SOA Architect or equivalent; Master's degree in Systems Engineering or IT.
  • Nice to Have (All Levels):
  • Experience in adjacent missions like IoT or fintech integration;
  • Additional certifications such as MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect;
  • Proficiency in tools like Talend or Informatica;
  • Knowledge of containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes);
  • International experience or language skills;
  • Advanced skills in SOA/ESB architectures and microservices;
  • Expert skills in complex system-of-systems design with responsibility to develop integration roadmaps and troubleshooting of interoperability issues;
  • Multilingual skills (e.g., French, German) for NATO collaboration.
