Job description

We're looking for a motivated Senior Full Stack Developer - with either a frontend- or backend focus - to help us build and evolve the digital backbone of our climate solutions. You'll be a key player in crafting intuitive, performant, and visually engaging user experiences - while also contributing across the stack, from APIs to integrations. If you love turning complex workflows into elegant user experiences and care deeply about user-centric product development, this might be your role.

From day one, you'll collaborate directly with our CTO and agile product team, with plenty of ownership, room to grow, and a real impact on how we design and deliver software that matters.

What you'll do:

  • Drive the development of engaging, scalable features for our MRV+ (Measurement, Reporting, Verification) and carbon marketplace platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other developers to bring reliable and scalable software to production.
  • Engage directly with customers and domain experts to understand requirements and iterate rapidly on solutions.
  • Translate complex product and data requirements into extensible and modular code, crafting clean APIs, handling backend logic, and integrating new services, to support intuitive UI components and user flows.
  • Participate in and lead architectural and system design discussions.
  • Support DevOps, CI/CD, and post-deployment improvements.
  • Contribute across the tech stack, when needed.
  • Mentor junior developers and coordinate the delivery of mid-sized to large-scale initiatives.

Requirements

Do you have experience in TypeScript?, * 5+ years of experience building production-ready web applications across the frontend and backend.

  • Strong passion for crafting scalable, performant, and extensible systems.
  • Solid understanding of software architecture and collaborative development workflows (Git, code reviews, etc.).
  • High degree of autonomy, creativity, and intrinsic motivation.
  • Excited to dive into new business domains and solve real-world problems.
  • Great command of English (German is a plus).
  • You must be in, or willing to work in, CET time zone.
  • Open to occasional travel.

Required for frontend focus:

  • Strong passion for crafting beautiful, responsive, and accessible user interfaces.
  • Strong experience with React (or similar frontend frameworks), HTML/CSS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript practices.
  • Comfortable working with backend technologies like Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and SQL when needed.

Required for backend focus:

  • Strong experience with backend technologies like Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and SQL.
  • Comfortable working with React (or similar frontend frameworks), HTML/CSS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript practices when needed.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Knowledge in Docker, Gradle, Kubernetes, Azure, PostgreSQL.
  • Experience leading the design, implementation, and operation of DevOps practices, cloud-native architectures, and CI/CD workflows in Azure and Kubernetes environments.
  • Enthusiasm for growing a culture of observability and reliability, and mentoring others on best practices in monitoring and incident response.
  • Enthusiasm for growing a strong testing culture and mentoring others on quality practices.

Benefits & conditions

  • A ground-breaking business with an early foothold in the carbon removal industry and the ability to have a real impact on climate change.
  • Small but rapidly growing, international team with a shared mission to address climate change.
  • Flexible working hours and remote work with hybrid possible if you are close to Freiburg.
  • Excellent salary.
  • 30 days paid leave + bank holidays.
  • Time off for attending conferences and financial support.
  • Individual learning and development budget.
  • Hansefit or Urban Sports Club.
  • nilohealth (Mental Health & Wellbeing).
  • Financial support for childcare (Generous contribution to Kindergarten costs).
  • Nice colleagues and a friendly, open and inclusive environment.

Candidates from cultures and backgrounds underrepresented in VC-backed startups and the climate space are strongly encouraged to apply. A diverse and inclusive workplace where we learn from each other is an integral part of our culture. We actively welcome people of different backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We are an equal-opportunity employer. In the case of equal suitability, preference is given to structurally discriminated individuals.

About the company

If climate change is making you feel bad, you’re not alone. We decided to invest in making a massive handprint of positive change. Reverse the flow of greenhouse gases: Down and not up. Reverse the flow of money: Reward carbon sinks and not polluters. This is the basis of the carbon sink economy.

Our mission is to empower people and organizations to mitigate the climate crisis by removing CO₂ from the atmosphere. Carbon removal is needed at large scale in addition to massive emission reductions. Next to carbon forestry and the build-up of soil organic carbon, biochar is one of the readily available and scalable carbon-sink solutions. Our startup company operates a blockchain-based carbon-sink accounting and trading platform with a primary focus on biochar.
