Job description
The position is part of the externally funded project "Development of AI based Digital Twin Models and ML-Methods for Structured Clinical Data" and is to be filled on a fixed-term basis in accordance with § 2 WissZeitVG and § 72 HessHG with the opportunity for own academic qualification at the Chair of Interstitial and Rare Lung Diseases of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine. The salary is in accordance with the collective labour agreement of the State of Hessen (E 13 TV-H).
As long as the maximum permissible duration of a fixed-term contract is not exceeded, you will be employed for a period of 3 years.
Your tasks at a glance
The project aims to build a framework to apply machine learning methods like generative pretrained transformers (GPT) to structured clinical data. The machine learning model will be trained on numeric biomedical data and clinical data from multiple points in time for each patient, focusing on four disease areas in lung research. The resulting machine learning model will be used as a digital twin for predictive analyses, imputation of missing data, and generation of synthetic patient data for specific disease phenotypes. Your tasks involve:
- Development or adaption of existing GPT/LLM frameworks to process structured data
- Preparation and integration of existing data
- Training performance and evaluation
The provision of academic services (including the processing of a research project financed by third party funds on a temporary basis) also serves the purpose of academic qualification.
Requirements
Do you have experience in UNIX?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * Completed Master's degree or equivalent university degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Mathematics or a related field
- Experience with at least one major machine learning framework, e.g. PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Confident use of Linux/Unix-Systems
- Sound knowledge and understanding of machine learning methods, especially transformer models as well as large language models
- Programming experience in Python
- Strong interest in working with real patient data and in collaborating with leading scientists
