Job description

We are seeking a National Grid Manager to lead our SAP Datasphere & SAC Planning teams. The successful candidate will own the strategic roadmap, architecture, and operational excellence of SAP Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) Planning, covering projects, continuous improvement, and production support. The role combines solution ownership, platform governance, best practices and regional enablement for finance, HR, planning, and engaging key senior stakeholders. The role involves cross-regional and cross-department collaboration to ensure a common sensible approach is adopted across National Grid.

What You'll Do

Technical:

  • Own the end-to-end architecture for SAP Datasphere, including connections, spaces design, data federation/replication approach, and performance optimisation for large, cross region data sets.
  • Oversee modelling standards in Datasphere: data builder objects, relational/graphical views, views, analytical models, fact and dimension models, and reusable business entities for SAC consumption.
  • Define and govern integration patterns between source systems (for example S/4HANA, SuccessFactors and other surrounding applications) including CDC/replication flows, task chains, and real time or near real time use cases.
  • Lead the design of SAC Planning models, including data models, versioning, allocation logic, driver-based planning, multi-currency handling, and integration with SAP Datasphere and core ERP actuals.
  • Ensure robust technical design for planning processes such as forecasting, budgeting, long range planning, and what if simulations, leveraging advanced SAC features (data actions, multi actions, process flows, and predictive capabilities where applicable).
  • Own technical standards for security: roles and authorisation scenarios in Datasphere, row level security and data access controls, SSO, and alignment with enterprise identity and data protection policies.
  • Govern development lifecycle and environments (dev/test/prod), promoting best practices, transport strategies, quality gates, and regression testing for Datasphere artefacts and SAC content.
  • Lead technical incident and problem management for the platforms, including root cause analysis, performance tuning, capacity planning, and proactive monitoring across UK and US time zones.

Strategic & Enablement:

  • Define and maintain the regional roadmap for SAP Datasphere and SAC Planning, aligned with global data and analytics strategy and business planning cycles in UK and US.
  • Champion a product mindset for the analytics and planning platforms, prioritising demand, managing backlogs, and balancing new projects, CRs, and technical debt reduction.
  • Build and run an enablement programme for regional teams and key users, including training on modelling standards, self-service data access, and best practices for planning and analytics.
  • Partner with enterprise architects, finance leadership, and IT operations to align Datasphere and SAC architectures with broader cloud, data, and AI strategies.
  • Engage with SAP and key partners to track roadmap developments, leverage new features (for example enhanced analytic models, cataloguing, AI assisted modelling), and assess their relevance for the UK/US landscape., We don't generate or sell energy: instead, we join the dots that take it from A to B. At the backbone of industry and the heart of daily life, we take this vital force where it's needed most. As a Graduate, you'll join us as we tackle increasingly complex - and important - challenges, with real responsibility, comprehensive training and the power to change things, from day one., At Undergraduate level, we offer a 12-week Summer Internship or a 12-month Industrial Placement. Both will provide you with in-depth, on-the-job experience, working at the forefront of our far-reaching business. That could include anything from assisting with the development of new network designs to supporting high-profile construction projects., We currently run an 18-month Graduate Programme, as well as a 3-year Finance Graduate Programme. Each is made up of three advanced placements, where you'll tackle issues that will define the future of our network. As well as Finance, that could mean specialising in Engineering & Technical, Non-Technical & Commercial or Business Support.

Requirements

  • A deep understanding of SAP ERP systems in the context of data and analytics.
  • Proven track record in managing teams of SAP experts and understanding/following the SAP product roadmap.
  • Experience working within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is preferred, with the ability to collaborate effectively within an agile environment.
  • Candidates with experience in SAP S/4HANA will be highly attractive, enabling cross-functional collaboration within the finance department.
  • Hands-on technical and functional skills and a desire to lead by example.
  • The ability to understand and manage multiple stakeholders is essential., Each role at National Grid requires specific skills - and we look for people who can contribute their own ideas and way of thinking. However, there are some qualities that tie us together. The world of energy is constantly evolving: we need people with the spark, adaptability and drive to keep people connected. If you're passionate about the future of our industry - and excited by the prospect of changing it - then you could be right for National Grid.
