Job description

  • You are the undisputed owner of the entire electronic domain and the bridge between the hardware and software colleagues.
  • You tackle every technical problem or complex challenge with both hands and push it resolutely through to a successful, validated solution.
  • You are the driving force behind improvement.
  • You are responsible for the entire circuit board process. From the initial concept design and schematic to the final realization and verification in practice.
  • You effortlessly translate complex technical ideas from 'plain language' into clear, unambiguous concept documents, requirements, and specifications.
  • You lead the schematic and design reviews to guarantee the highest quality of our electronics.
  • You work with motor controllers, STM microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, and real-time communication.
  • You ensure that a laser fires precisely on time, that a motor reaches the exact correct position, and that our cameras run synchronously with the rest of the system.

You are comfortable with C, in embedded environments, and in solving technical puzzles where hardware and software meet.

In this role, you will be on the shop floor and at the robot often. You test, measure, view signals on an oscilloscope/multimeter, and solve problems by truly understanding what is happening in the hardware. Where necessary, you go out into the field with a laptop and multimeter to see what is going on.

Together, you build a system that must perform in the field. The beauty of this work is that your result is always visible: a better-controlled galvo, a faster-reacting motor, a laser that does exactly what you designed.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Python?, * You have a higher professional education (hbo) or university (wo) background in embedded systems or electrical engineering.

  • You get energy from testing on the machine and solving problems, not just from writing clean code.
  • You are intrinsically motivated to take responsibility and feel personally involved in the results.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of work experience, in which you have been able to apply your knowledge in practice, preferably in an embedded or hardware-adjacent environment.
  • You can design electronics from schematic to layout and manufacturing, and you are happy to pick up an oscilloscope to validate your design (preferably you have one at home too).
  • You have experience with C, programming microcontrollers, and communication protocols.
  • Experience with CAN bus and STM32 is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Python, Linux, and Git is a bonus., Not 100% sure you meet all the requirements? No problem. At cropr, we value people who like to build, test, and improve. Experience is great, but motivation matters just as much.

Benefits & conditions

Are you the driven embedded engineer who wants to be the central figure in the development of our systems, with the ultimate responsibility for all hardware, PCBs, controllers, and associated firmware? Then you are the one we are looking for!

At cropr, we are building an autonomous laser weeding robot that selectively destroys weeds without pesticides. A system where AI, powerful lasers, galvos, motors, and high-speed cameras converge.

To truly enable this hardware to work together smartly, we need someone who speaks the language of microcontrollers and for whom PCBs hold no secrets. Someone like you.

What`s in it for you?

  • You directly contribute to more sustainable agriculture with robots that are actually used in the field.
  • A salary of up to €6,000 gross per month, depending on your knowledge and experience.
  • 25 vacation days, with the option to purchase additional days.
  • A close-knit, multidisciplinary engineering team with short communication lines.
  • A start-up environment with lots of freedom, fast decision-making and room for your ideas.

About the company

cropr has its roots in the successful tulip-selecting robot we developed at H2L Robotics. We are now building a scalable product that is ready for demanding agricultural environments. The first machines are being assembled over the coming weeks and will be operating in the fields from May this year.
