Job description

Our client is looking for a Cloud Services Engineer with strong DBA skills to join our team. The successful applicant will have a good understanding of the various technologies underpinning a multi-tenanted Cloud environment along with experience in the configuration, management and optimisation of SQL in clustered and non-clustered environments. As well as being a good trouble-shooter, you will also have a good understanding of operations and maintenance, work well in a team and be comfortable working without supervision. You must be energetic with a genuine desire to learn about a broad range of applications, technologies and practices that make up our enterprise cloud proposition.

Reporting to the SaaS Customer Operations Director, you will be part of the team responsible for the following areas:

  • Monitoring the health and status of the technologies, applications and services delivering multiple cloud environments
  • Diagnosing and fixing technical issues with Cloud Infrastructure using remote and on-site tools
  • Assisting with customer support issues and troubleshooting under tight SLA's
  • Provide technical input to Pre-Sales engagements
  • Designing and planning upgrades, refresh activities and improvements to ensure a resilient and secure environment that meets SLA's and regulatory compliance
  • Developing and applying monitoring and maintenance procedures to minimize disruption and provide an optimised environment.
  • Researching, designing and applying best practices to the services to support growth and mitigate risk
  • Delivering out of hours on-call support and planned maintenance activities for controlled releases and upgrades

Requirements

You must have hands on practical experience in the following:

  • Management, configuration and maintenance of enterprise SQL environments in multi-tenanted, 24x7x365 configurations, including:

  • Query plan debugging, tuning and optimisation

  • Configuring RDBMS for virtualised and cloud based instances (ie: Azure)

  • Operations and management of VMware virtualised environments including clustered/resilient configurations, DR, monitoring, capacity planning and optimisation

  • Management and configuration of Windows Server 2008R2, 2012 & 2014, in various roles and functions (IIS, AD, DNS, FSRM, SQL)

  • Operations and management of different enterprise storage technologies (NAS, SAN ) including optimisation for databases

  • An understanding of TCP/IP networking in regards to servers, routers, firewalls, applications, databases and storage.

  • Troubleshooting and optimisation of enterprise applications running in Cloud environments

The following skills are also desirable:

  • An understanding of web application stacks and interoperability of various components
  • Experience in EMC CMS application stack and database configurations
  • Experience working with SQL supported applications and teams subject to a full development lifecycle
  • Experience and exposure to development/Ops tools including JIRA, Elastic Search, Selenium, PowerShell

Additional Requirements:

  • Office based role. Willing to travel and work in other locations around the UK at short notice. Car driver with a clean license.
  • Ability to work within 24-7 on-call shift pattern, split between the team
