Job description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the company's CRM systems and MS SQL Server database systems; and for providing data for the purposes of reporting and will have outstanding analytical skills combined with extensive database experience.

Reporting into the Director of IT, you will be adept at managing multiple projects and thrive on having a busy workload. You will be taking responsibility for the company's entire student database, managing data processes, and ensuring data accuracy and integrity, and have a real passion for analysing data and providing key insights. Advanced Excel skills will be very beneficial.

This is a broad and visible role in which you will need to provide a proactive, prompt, efficient service to managers and staff across the company. Building and maintaining good relationships with all staff is key in the role.

You must be confident in managing data in the CRMs and MS SQL Server databases and ensuring that the information contained within them is up-to-date, accurate and accessible.

The role occasionally involves providing cover for other members of the IT team should a team member be absent, and also ensuring that there are comprehensive guides available to troubleshoot issues in your area of responsibility.

Key accountabilities

Database Management

Responsible for the continued operation of the MS SQL Server databases where they are used for the company's CRM systems. Duties include database maintenance and ensuring that effective backup and recovery solutions are in place and are fit for purpose.

CRM Management

Maintain, evolve and improve the company's CRM systems in accordance with business requirements, ensuring that the data within them is kept up to date and accurate and that the systems function efficiently and effectively.

Report Production

To provide requested information drawn from the CRM, or from the MS SQL Server databases directly via SQL querying & report services, with a particular emphasis on financial reporting.

Research, Development and Project Management

To investigate and propose new technologies and services that the company can make good business use of, and offer to its customers; and to manage the means of achieving their implementation.

Training

To provide where necessary, training and support to staff in the use of the company's CRM and MS SQL Server systems.

Members Portals

To provide data to maintain and enhance the company's internet-based member portals, both existing and new.

Improving Processes

To research and implement improvements to operational processes as necessary, in line with knowledge of the databases, existing procedures and business strategy.

Projects and Additional Tasks

Additional projects based on eAssessment, eLearning and ePortfolio platforms are also possible.

Requirements

Of graduate calibre you will have excellent interpersonal, customer service and time management skills and must have the confidence to deal with people at all levels and from all backgrounds

The work requires good administrative skills and is often to tight deadlines where displaying accuracy and common-sense is an essential requirement of the job. You must be able to manage multiple priorities, often conflicting, and possess strong organisational abilities.

You will need to be flexible in your approach to work, happy to work autonomously as well as part of a wider team and to respond to logged requests or calls within agreed SLA timeframes.

Required skills

  • A proven track record in administering data within CRM and MS SQL Systems
  • Experience of managing databases in SQL Management Studio/Enterprise Manager
  • Experience of writing SQL queries, using MS Report Builder and MS Excel
  • Comprehensive knowledge of database structure and content
  • Project Management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desirable skills

  • A basic knowledge of other databases such as MS Access and MySQL

  • Experience with Content Management Systems

  • A knowledge of web-based languages such as HTML, PHP, VBScript & JavaScript

  • Experience of website management, proofing and posting web content

  • Familiarity with SEO, Google Analytics & Webmaster Tools
