Strategic Insights under the direction of the Automation Lead, contributing to the development and delivery of automated, integrated and insight driven data solutions. You will have a close working relationship with force leads in Performance and Research which are vital aspects of the department. The postholder will utilise skills in Microsoft Fabric, ETL pipeline development, API integration and data orchestration to ensure interoperability and efficient access to data from a wide variety of internal and external sources. Provide guidance to Business Intelligence Developers, Automation Analytical Engineers and Strategic Insights Analysts, including IT Technicians and Senior Technicians, in the design and development of solutions, to ensure service delivery that is compliant with ICT formal processes and controls. Work with a range of stakeholders to identify how to meet their needs, representing Corporate Development as an expert advisor, in order to deliver improved processes and systems. Liaise with colleagues across other technical areas to understand the risks and technical requirements in their area, in order to develop and deliver integrated solutions. Liaison with Information Security to ensure appropriate measures are in place, systems and practices adhere to required protocols and policies and procedures meet required standards. Support the development of colleagues through the provision of technical direction, coaching, and information sharing to contribute to the organisational knowledge base. Undertake complex maintenance, support, and change work that has been escalated from the team to contribute to the delivery of an effective and responsive ICT service. Monitor the provision of support and service for key systems by technical colleagues within their specialism, for example ensuring routine maintenance is undertaken, in order to provide reliable and consistent service to operational policing. Skills & ExperienceIdentify, design and deliver secure and reliable API integrations to enable efficient data exchange between systems and services, supporting improved accessibility, automation and interoperability across the Force. Apply expert knowledge of API standards, authentication protocols and data sharing practices to ensure integrations adhere to Information Security requirements, organisational policies and national policing frameworks. Develop and maintain automated data flows and ETL processes that utilise APIs as key sources of data, ensuring accuracy, consistency and timely availability of information to the Strategic Insights function. Engage in regular contact with senior business leaders, data owners and technical stakeholders to understand their requirements, advising on how API driven solutions can enhance operational capability and service delivery. Employ effective negotiating and influencing skills to manage expectations, drive adoption of new integration approaches and support alignment with the organisation's broader data and technology strategy. Work closely with peers across Surrey Police (and where relevant Sussex Police) in domains where systems integration, data acquisition and interoperability are essential, including Intelligence, Information Management and DDaT, to ensure consistent value and shared outcomes. Provide technical coaching and support to colleagues in the use of APIs, integration tools and best practice approaches, contributing to the wider organisational capability and maturity in automation and data engineering. Demonstrate high levels of personal resilience, initiative and self-motivation, operating effectively within a dynamic environment focused on continuous improvement and effective service delivery. Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent experience in a relevant technical or analytical discipline. It is desirable that the postholder has: Possess detailed knowledge of policing regulations, standards and national systems, including their associated data structures, interfaces and integration mechanisms. Work effectively with collaboration partners (primarily Sussex Police, but also regional forces and external agencies such as health, local authorities, academia and private sector organisations) to explore new API driven data sharing opportunities and enhance service delivery for the public. Demonstrate familiarity with automation tools and integration platforms used to orchestrate API workflows and optimise system interoperability. Have experience working in environments where secure system integrations, data governance and controlled information flows are core operational requirements. Hands-on experience with Oracle and SQL Server across both OLTP systems and enterprise data warehouse environments.
