Job description
The Kubernetes Platform Engineer supports the operation and maintenance of DOL's AWS EKS platform, assisting in tenant onboarding, environment provisioning, platform patching, and operational troubleshooting. This role works closely with applications teams and the Senior platform Engineer to deliver a stable, secure, and efficient platform for multiple application teams., * Build and maintain Kubernetes IaC (Helm, Terraform) for tenant environments and namespaces.
- Apply Kubernetes application configurations, RBAC, IRSA, and security policies.
- Perform EKS patching, upgrades, and platform configuration changes.
- Deploy and configure Kubernetes load balancers (public & ingress) to TIC 3.0 standards.
- Execute base image maintenance tasks and assist in image distribution.
- Support tenant onboarding: repo setup, CI/CD pipeline configuration, Helm chart deployment.
- Work and collaborate closely with the application teams to define and clarify roles and responsibilities for customer-facing aspects of the platform.
- Carry out automation workflows for self-service and provisioning tasks.
- Support backup/restore processes and DR execution.
- Contribute to platform documentation and operational runbooks.
- Participate in after-hours and weekend maintenance rotations.
Requirements
- BS/BA, 5+ years of work experience, with:
- 3-5 years in Kubernetes administration (EKS preferred).
- Working knowledge of Helm, Terraform, ArgoCD, AWS IAM/RBAC.
- Must have familiarity with monitoring tools - Prometheus and Grafana.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes networking and security.
- Experience with container registry management.
- Scripting skills in (Bash, Python).
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends for patching or deployments.
- Ability to obtain a public trust clearance.
Benefits & conditions
$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
