Job description

  • Lead and manage all warehouse and transport activity for your shift, ensuring targets for productivity, quality and on-time delivery are met
  • Plan and allocate daily workloads for warehouse operatives, drivers and temporary staff to meet operational requirements
  • Coordinate vehicle despatch and returns, liaising with transport planners to optimise routes and schedules
  • Monitor KPIs (throughput, OTIF, shrinkage, vehicle utilisation) and prepare concise shift reports for senior management
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, transport regulations and company procedures, including checks on drivers' licences, tachograph records and vehicle defect reporting
  • Support recruitment, induction and training of team members, conducting coaching and performance conversations to develop a high-performing team
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across warehouse and transport processes to increase efficiency and reduce cost
  • Respond to and resolve operational issues and customer complaints escalated during your shift

Requirements

  • Proven experience in warehouse and transport operations, ideally supervising or managing a shift team
  • A Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise effectively and deliver under pressure
  • Good understanding of transport legislation, driver hours rules and vehicle safety requirements
  • Confident user of IT systems, including Microsoft Office; experience of WMS/TMS desirable
  • Excellent communication and people management skills with a collaborative, coaching approach
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and a focus on continuous improvement
  • Flexible team player willing to support wider logistics activities as required
