Job description

We're looking for a Sustain Design Engineer to take ownership of our live product portfolio, ensuring everything we've designed continues to perform exactly as it should… and even better over time.

This is not about maintaining the status quo.

It's about:

  • Solving problems
  • Improving products
  • Supporting and improving the production of our products
  • And making sure what we put into the world stands up to real use, real customers, and real scale

You'll sit at the heart of the business, working across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain and commercial teams, keeping products performing, improving and evolving.

If you like getting stuck into real issues, making things better, and seeing the impact of your work on the shop floor and beyond, you'll thrive here.

What you'll be doing

You'll be the go-to person for our live products, the one people come to when something needs fixing, improving, or rethinking.

You'll:

  • Provide hands-on engineering support across production, supply chain, quality and commercial teams
  • Lead quality improvement work, getting to the root cause, not just fixing symptoms
  • Support the customisation team with requests relating to existing products, assessing feasibility, advising on design implications and ensuring solutions remain manufacturable, cost effective and aligned to product standards and integrity.
  • Work closely with our overseas manufacturing partners to ensure consistency and quality
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost, simplify the manufacturing process and increase efficiency
  • Drive continuous improvement across materials, components and processes
  • Support sustainability initiatives aligned to our 2030 goals
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and product data
  • Design and develop practical production solutions, jigs, fixtures, tooling

In short: you'll make sure our products don't just launch well, they stay great.

Why this role is different

You won't be stuck behind a desk.

This is a hands-on, problem-solving role where:

  • You'll see issues first-hand and fix them properly
  • You'll influence how products evolve over time
  • You'll work across teams, not in a silo
  • You'll balance design intent with real-world manufacturing

And importantly, you'll protect our NPD team so they can focus on what's next, while you make sure what's already out there continues to deliver.

Requirements

We're looking for someone who combines technical depth with practical thinking.

You're likely to:

  • Have a background in engineering or manufacturing (degree, HNC, apprenticeship or similar)
  • Bring solid experience (around 5+ years) in a production or manufacturing environment
  • Be highly analytical, with a structured approach to problem-solving
  • Be comfortable working independently and taking ownership
  • Have a strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes
  • Be confident communicating with both technical and non-technical people
  • Be detail-oriented, but always thinking about the bigger picture

Experience in furniture is a bonus, but not essential.

You'll also be confident using tools like AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office and ERP systems.

Benefits & conditions

We're a growing, design-led business with global reach, but we've stayed true to who we are: down-to-earth, thoughtful, collaborative and ambitious.

We care about:

  • Doing things properly
  • Supporting each other
  • And continuously improving what we do

We support hybrid working (typically four days in the office, one from home), and you'll be part of a friendly, informal culture where ideas are welcomed and people genuinely enjoy working together.

Alongside a competitive salary, we offer:

  • Performance-related bonuses
  • Generous holiday and pension
  • Life insurance and wellbeing support
  • Free parking, fresh fruit and Friday lunch clubs
  • Regular socials and a relaxed working environment
  • A genuine commitment to sustainability and doing things the right way

Interested?

If you're someone who takes pride in solving problems properly, improving how things work, and making sure products stand the test of time, we'd love to hear from you.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Benefits:

  • Company pension
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking
