Job description

We are recruiting for a graduate to join our Data Engineering department as a Graduate Data Engineer. During your employment, you will develop the experience needed to become a well-rounded Data Engineer, receiving on-the-job training and development support. This role is perfect for candidates who are passionate about data and are interested to start a career in data, with opportunities to learn about the full data lifecycle from management, through modelling to deployment. This role will provide a solid grounding for a career in many data roles in the future.

The Graduate Programme Alongside the day job, you'll be enrolled onto our Graduate Programme which is an annual scheme designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of our business. Throughout the year, you'll have the opportunity to spend time with teams from various areas of the business, with the chance to reflect on each month with key learnings and takeaways. By the end of the programme, you should have an in-depth understanding of how we operate and a comprehensive 'big picture' view of our organisation.

Throughout your graduate journey, you'll have the opportunity to enhance both your technical and personal skills. We provide tailored support to allow you to develop the experience needed to become a well-rounded Data Engineer, receiving on-the-job training and mentoring.

Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to engage in impactful projects outside of your primary role, such as supporting local community initiatives or participating in our DEI working group. Requirements

  • Strong numerate degree with an element of computation involved (Computer Science, Computational project in physics, numerical method approaches in mathematics, etc).
  • An interest in solving problems with data and technology.
  • An ability to understand complex issues and deal with uncertainty.
  • Ability to follow process and think solve problems in a structured way.
  • A problem-solving mindset and ability to see the bigger picture.
  • Effective communication and strong presentation skills.

This graduate level role is open to candidates with a range of experiences, from graduate to 1 year+ experience. The successful candidate may have some experience with coding languages, preferably Python, some awareness of things around data management (SQL and databases) but more importantly a desire to develop your skills on the job.

Successful candidates will have the enthusiasm and ability to work in a dynamic environment and push themselves to become independent problem solvers. They will have a desire to develop an understanding of programming languages, understand what makes a data product and how you develop, deploy and run data pipelines and other data applications in a supportive and innovative environment working alongside experienced data practitioners.
