Job description
We are an engineering-led organisation where data plays a critical role in driving operational efficiency, product quality, and continuous improvement. We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain the modern data platforms that power analytics, reporting, and operational insight across our organisation. You will work across the full data lifecycle ensuring our data is accurate, accessible, and ready to drive meaningful business decisions.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a technical environment and is excited by the opportunity to apply generative AI, agentic AI, and automation technologies within an engineering context.
We are based across the UK with offices in Birmingham, Glasgow, Rainford and Hereford. The successful candidate will need to travel across these locations as required., * Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and modern data architectures.
- Develop and optimise ETL/ELT processes for internal and external data sources.
- Manage and optimise data lakes, data warehouses, and other storage solutions.
- Ensure high standards of data quality, governance, security, and performance.
- Analyse datasets to generate insights that support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Create dashboards, reports, and visualisations that highlight trends and key performance metrics.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs, define KPIs, and deliver impactful data solutions.
- Automate data processes and contribute to continuous improvement across analytics and reporting workflows.
- Apply modern engineering and analytical best practice, including generative and agentic AI, automation, and cloud technologies.
- Chunk and structure unstructured data for use in LLM pipelines.
- Format, normalise, embed, and index data for retrieval and automated workflows.
Requirements
- Strong experience with SQL, Python, and modern data engineering tools.
- Deep understanding of data modelling, data warehouse concepts, and data governance principles.
- A clear communicator across all levels of the business in technical and non technical positions
- Practical experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure or AWS.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD, including Git, automated testing, and deployment pipelines.
- Proven experience developing dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI.
- Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Experience with generative AI, agentic AI approaches, and automation technologies.
- Experience in a manufacturing/ engineering environment is beneficial but not essential
