Job description

An early-stage technology company is seeking an Applied Machine Learning / Vision Engineer to help build and scale advanced perception systems. This is a highly impactful role within a small, high-calibre team, where you'll work closely with research and engineering to translate cutting-edge ideas into robust, real-world systems. You'll play a key role in shaping how machine learning models are developed, evaluated, and deployed. In this position, you'll be involved in building and refining ML pipelines, working with complex datasets, and improving model performance across a range of real-world conditions. You'll also contribute to ensuring that research outputs are reproducible, scalable, and production-ready. What they're looking for:

  • Strong background in machine learning and/or computer vision, with solid theoretical foundations

Requirements

  • PhD strongly preferred (Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Mathematics, Physics, or related field)
  • Track record of academic excellence, ideally from a top-tier university
  • Additional postdoctoral research or significant academic experience is highly valued
  • Evidence of rigorous thinking through research, publications, or technically demanding projects
  • Experience with model training, evaluation, and optimisation, including working with real-world datasets
  • Familiarity with building or supporting ML pipelines, from experimentation through to deployment
  • Understanding of performance trade-offs (e.g. speed vs accuracy vs robustness)
  • Comfortable operating in a hands-on, high-ownership environment, with the ability to work independently

Benefits & conditions

Why consider it:

  • Early-stage company with strong growth potential
  • Very competitive salary with significant equity
  • High level of ownership and technical influence
  • Opportunity to work on challenging, real-world ML and vision problems
  • Collaborative, high-performing team environment
