Job description

JDR Cable Systems are looking to recruit a Design Engineer for our busy design team based in Hartlepool. The Design department is comprised of several teams serving different parts of the business and taking responsibility for different product lines. The design department provides detailed Engineering Design and Technical support associated with Umbilical/Cable design and termination hardware solutions to meet the customer requirements in the Oil and Gas and Renewable Energy markets commensurate with relevant national and international standards. Working day-to-day for the Senior Engineer and collaboratively with the Design Engineers, Graduate Engineers and Design Technicians the Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design teams as directed by the Senior Design Engineer or Lead Engineer. Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Conduct detailed design engineering for new projects, collaborating with various departments to understand customer/project requirements.
  • Develop cost-effective engineered solutions, considering materials, manufacturability, and compliance with customer and internal requirements.
  • Engage with suppliers on technical and engineering matters.
  • Operate 2D and 3D CAD packages and design software, ensuring compliance with JDR procedures.
  • Produce and check design calculations and reports in support of hardware designs.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with customers and suppliers, maintaining open communication with colleagues.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering practices and adherence to internal and external procedures, guidelines, and standards.
  • Supporting on-site manufacturing and product assembly teams to ensure quality, cost and delivery objectives are achieved.

Requirements

The successful candidate should also be degree qualified in an engineering subject with 5+ years relevant experience, gained in an engineering field. Ideally, the candidate should have demonstrable experience in the engineering, design, and delivery of Oil & Gas and/or Renewable Energy Equipment. With experience in Autodesk software packages, specifically Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and Vault, and have the ability to adapt to bespoke/non-standard software packages.
