Job description
The University of Surrey are seeking a Finance Systems Analyst.
The Finance Systems Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the University's Unit4 ERP system which is currently being migrated from an on-premise system to the Unit4 SaaS cloud solution.
Reporting to the Finance Systems Manager, the postholder will be pivotal in ensuring that financial operations and processes are supported pre and post moving to new web functionality, ensuring integrations are fully supported and running effectively.
The postholder will hold a key role in a small Finance System team who are responsible for supporting 3,000+ users across the University.
The post will involve continual engagement with key stakeholders across finance, IT and other key functions., * Providing technical support to troubleshoot the university's Unit 4 system issues and have integral knowledge of the Unit4 ERP web.
- Lead on ongoing maintenance both within the system and with integrations with external systems. This requires an expert user of the system and they will be expected to utilise this knowledge and technical expertise to enable the University to use the applications to their full potential.
- Assisting in resolving any systems integration challenges, working closely with the IT team to ensure that integrations maintained and run effectively.
- Providing guidance on system configuration, ensuring that appropriate documentation and controls are in place, and contributing to change management and project work as required.
- Develop and maintain financial reports while ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with financial controls.
- Proactively identify and mitigate any risks with the current processes and new solution, troubleshooting technical and operational issues, and ensuring that development work aligns with both finance best practices and regulatory compliance.
- Identify opportunities to automate finance processes and streamline workflows within the system, ensuring that all functional and technical developments meet user needs and university policy. Their work may involve all areas of financial operation across the university, including transactional, procurement, budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
- Deliver training sessions on financial systems and changes to the system as required. The post holder must demonstrate a confident communication style and be responsive to the needs of their audience to ensure the professional and effective delivery of information.
Skills and experience
- The role requires experience of a similar role in a Finance Systems Team working with Unit 4 ERP.
- The role will support the integration of Unit4 with other University systems and assist in the resolution of any technical issues, investigating issues and resolving these as required.
- Ongoing monitoring of risks and issues is required, maintaining a high standard of project governance and stakeholder communication.
- An understanding of accounting principles and financial operations is necessary.
- There is an expectation that documentation of software developments and system configurations is kept up to date to ensure it is in line with University policy and user requirements.
- The post holder will have regular and frequent contact with end-users, Finance, Procurement and IT staff as well as external consultants.
- The role is responsible for ensuring the system is built to comply with regulatory, audit, and data protection standards.
Requirements
Degree, HND, NVQ qualified and significant experience OR significant relevant experience in a finance systems role.
Proven track record of successful software/application deployment and administration.
Experience of developing reports from relational databases using SQL.
Ability to communicate effectively with specialist IT staff e.g. DBA's.
Relevant Agresso / Unit 4 experience.
MS Office skills.
ARC, RERX and Excelerator skills.
Desirable
Understanding of service management concepts & disciplines e.g. ITIL version 3.
Experience of working in an HE environment.
