Job description

As a Principal IT Enterprise Architect (Contract) at our large ecommerce company, you will lead the Enterprise Community of Practice (ECOP) in Architecture Governance to crowdsource and enforce IT standards, policies, patterns, decision trees, and guardrails across business architecture, applications, data, services, and infrastructure-ensuring business alignment, compliance, security, and scalable growth. Applications (#1 priority): standardize dev tools and fix fragmented CI/CD pipelines across 13 IT orgs; Data (#2): map/harmonize 50+ systems of record, advance MDM, and drive toward one unified data platform (e.g., Workday as single source for employee data); Technology/Platforms & Cloud (#3): define lifecycles/ownership for 13 platforms, map workloads, rationalize multi-cloud (narrow from GCP/AWS/Azure + IBM/Oracle to 2), and build platform decision trees via ECOP; Security (#4): strengthen IAM/access management with Okta and SailPoint. You'll establish governance processes, design agile solutions, partner with VP Enterprise Architecture to shape the technology roadmap, engage stakeholders with exec-ready visuals, mentor architects/engineers, foster collaboration and innovation, track emerging tech, and support strategic EA delivery-emphasizing discovery, rationalization, and consensus-building, not unilateral decisions.

Requirements

15+ years in IT and Enterprise Architecture, with real wins in designs and rollouts.

8+ years in IT governance, risk, and compliance-or 10+ years hands-on in Technical Solutions Architecture, IT Services Architecture, or Technical Product Ownership.

Strong communication to connect with tech and non-tech folks.

Proven track record leading Communities of Practice (COP, COE, C4E) or similar-driving standards, practices, guidelines, and patterns collaboratively.

Deep knowledge in multi-cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP), app design, and system integration.

Familiar with ITIL, COBIT, SAFe, DevOps (including DevSecOps), Lean Architecture, and Agile.

Experience improving SDLC and ITSM processes. Hands-on with Agile "designed for change" EA-as-a-Service or EA-as-a-Product setups.

Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
