Job description

POSITION PURPOSE: Manages the day-to-day operations and functions of a facilities management GIS system and assists with the Asset Management databases that store facilities related information. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Data Management: Maintains the Facilities Management GIS system including adding/deleting users, creating new data layers, collecting, organizing, and maintaining geographic data, including data acquisition, data creation and editing, and database management. Gathers scope level information from Project Managers to input into database for annual publication of the Capital Improvement Plan list/scope book. QA/QC floor plan data to add as renovation projects are completed. Works with staff to keep room usage and employee assignments by space for each building.
  • Spatial Analysis and Geocoding: Using multiple GIS software packages (ESRI, MapInfo Professional, etc.), performs spatial analysis tasks such as data overlay, buffering, proximity analysis, and spatial statistics. Geocodes student data at least annually for use in projecting future enrollments.
  • Map Production: Creates visually appealing and informative maps charts, and graphs to present geospatial analysis results to both technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and effective communication of information in print and web-based formats. Annually posts the interactive attendance zone maps on the district's website through ArcGIS online. Provides maps for District Departments as needed.
  • Database Design: Assists in the design and development of GIS databases, including schema design, table creation, indexing, and optimization for efficient storage and retrieval.
  • Quality Assurance: Performs data quality checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of all spatial data, identifying and resolving errors or anomalies.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborates with multiple stakeholders to define GIS/Asset Management project requirements, timelines, and anticipated results.
  • Assist Transportation Department with the development and maintenance of GIS routing software program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Computer Science or closely related field
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • GISP credentials preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience with the ArcGIS software suite and extensions
  • Experience with ArcGIS editing functions, spatial analysis, and geoprocessing model fundamentals
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online and other GIS cloud applications
  • Working knowledge of development technologies such as XML, HTML 5.0, JavaScript, and Python
  • Ability to manage many competing priorities at once
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form with multiple stakeholders
  • Asset Management experience is preferred but not required.
  • Good problem-solving skills in a team environment
  • Knowledge of maintaining enterprise GIS
  • Ability to develop a new GIS database from start to finish.
