Job description

  • Configure and manage Splunk data inputs (Syslog, Universal forwarders, Application Programming Interface, Hybrid Electronic Cluster, cloud connectors etc.)
  • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements for new sources and translate them into onboarding plans, with our key partners in Enterprise Security
  • Develop and maintain technical add-ons for field extractions, data parsing and normalization
  • Integrate AI/ML models into observability pipelines to enable predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and intelligent alerting.
  • Troubleshoot ingestion issues across forwarders, indexers and parsing capabilities
  • Automate onboarding workflows with scripts, dashboards, automation tools (Python, Ansible, Terraform etc.)
  • Design and implement observability solutions using modern engineering practices and observability technologies.
  • Develop and maintain integrations across observability platforms (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace, OpenTelemetry,).
  • Build and optimize dashboards, alerts, and analytics to support proactive monitoring and incident response.
  • Collaborate with platform teams to ensure observability is embedded across CI/CD pipelines and production workloads.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and enterprise change management processes.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing across the organization., To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria:

At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested

Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership.

Employees who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.

Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.

Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

Requirements

Humana's IT Enterprise Observability Engineering team is seeking a seasoned Senior Software Engineer with a strong background in observability platforms, cloud-native development, and systems engineering. As a Senior Splunk Engineer, you are required to have experience as Splunk Cloud Engineer with experience in Security Information and Event Management, log management and data onboarding. The role focuses on ingesting, normalizing and validating data sources into Splunk to support Security Operations, Information Technology operations and Compliance use cases. This role blends the design, development, and optimization of observability. It requires deep engineering expertise with modern observability practices, AI/ML integration, and platform automation solutions across metrics, logs, events, and traces, enabling actionable insights and operational excellence across the enterprise.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Enterprise Security, and IT Operations to deliver scalable, resilient, and compliant observability capabilities. While direct hand-ons Splunk Cloud expertise is required, this role also requires a broader engineering mindset focused on automation, integration, and innovation in observability tooling. Experience with AI/ML-driven analytics and modern cloud platforms (MCPs) is essential., * Associate's degree and 7+ years of software engineering experience (or 10+ years in lieu of a degree).

  • 4+ years of experience designing and implementing observability solutions, metrics, events, logs and traces
  • 1+ years' experience integrating AI/ML models into operational or observability workflows.
  • Experienced in Splunk developing, onboarding and SIEM engineering along with Splunk universal forwarders, heavy forwarders and indexers
  • Proficiency in data parsing and field extractions using props.conf, transforms.conf and Regex
  • Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, Java).
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and telemetry pipelines.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and lead technical initiatives., * Splunk Certified Core Power User or Enterprise Admin.
  • Experience with Splunk SOAR, ITSI, or similar automation platforms.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and SRE principles.

Benefits & conditions

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$106,900 - $147,000 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
