Job description

The Systems Administrator will work closely with the system administrator team overseeing the comprehensive lifecycle of system development, integration, and testing in secure environments. This role involves developing and maintaining system requirements, defining test strategies, executing verification and validation activities, and analyzing results to recommend corrective actions. The administrator collaborates across engineering disciplines while leading the integration of hardware, software, and mission systems, implementing modern DevSecOps practices, and configuring secure test environments using cloud-native and virtualized resources. They utilize model-based systems engineering tools, contribute to risk management, drive continuous process improvements through automation and metrics, document findings for reviews and deliverables, and mentor junior engineers, providing technical leadership across projects as they advance in the role.

Systems Administrator duties include:

  • Reviews, develops, documents, and maintains system requirements and traceability across the lifecycle.
  • Defines test strategies, plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for component, integration, and system-level testing.
  • Designs and executes verification & validation activities (functional, interface, performance, reliability, regression).
  • Analyzes test results, performs root cause analyses, and recommends corrective actions.
  • Collaborates across engineering disciplines, working closely with software developers, system architects, and test engineers to validate end-to-end functionality and mission effectiveness.
  • Leads integration of hardware, software, and mission systems in secure DoD environments, ensuring interoperability, performance, and mission assurance.
  • Applies modern DevSecOps practices-including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, containerized deployments, and infrastructure as code-to streamline integration and test activities.
  • Stands up, configures, and maintains secure test environments leveraging cloud-native and virtualized resources (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or on-premises equivalents).
  • Uses model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and requirements management tools to support design, analysis, and traceability.
  • Contributes to risk, issue, and opportunity management; assess and report technical readiness and critical path impacts.
  • Drives continuous improvement of integration and test processes, incorporating automation, metrics, and lessons learned to increase efficiency and reliability.
  • Documents integration results and test findings for design reviews, readiness assessments, and formal customer deliverables.
  • Mentors junior engineers; at higher levels, provide technical leadership across projects and broader mentoring responsibilities.

Requirements

  • BS 5-7 Years, MS 3-5, PhD 0-2
  • Must possess the required DoD 8140 certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+)
  • Must possess an active U.S. TS/SCI Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 5-7 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • Strong systems thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Practical experience with requirements decomposition, requirements tracing and configuration management
  • Experience writing test plans and procedures and executing system-level integration and verification
  • Familiar with standard engineering tools such as requirements management (DOORS or similar), MBSE (MSOSA/Cameo or similar), test management, and common collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, Git)
  • Proficient with one or more scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash, Matlab) for test automation and data analysis
