The Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health develops, maintains and hosts a large number of digital tools and resources including web, smartphone, and database applications., This incumbent is responsible for working with center staff, federal and state agencies, and other stakeholders to maintain and develop the Bugwood digital resources. They also serve a leading role in web application development. The Application Programmer Associate must have a working knowledge of programming languages such as NodeJS, ColdFusion, Python and JavaScript. Additional familiarity and experience with front-end frameworks such as React or Svelte would be a benefit. The job requires understanding of how to create web applications that provide users with efficient and effective means of interacting with data. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Programming languages such as JavaScript, CSS, HTML, NodeJS, Python, ColdFusion
- Front-end Frameworks such as React, Svelte, Angular, Bootstrap
- Testing, Environment aware configuration and development
- Effective written and verbal communication and organizational skills
- Maintain appropriate documentation
- Working knowledge of or proven capability to quickly learn additional programming languages, systems, and other tools as needed.

- Test applications for potential functionality and data security issues and document findings.
- Investigate and resolve bugs/issues for both new development and existing applications and document progress.
Percentage of time 20, Project Planning/Research and Development
- Research, test, and learn new software development tools and frameworks as assigned by project analysts/managers.
- Interpret website functionality requirements based on client descriptions.
- Provide estimates of development time requirements to project managers/supervisors.
- Document proposed application architecture/code for new projects and features.
Percentage of time 10, Miscellaneous
- Assemble information for use in applications

Requirements
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications., * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with sufficient experience to show competence and innovation in application development.
- Experience in developing web applications for forestry, agriculture and/or natural resources.
