Job description
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join theKeepStockengineering team.KeepStockis Grainger's Inventory Management Solution for helping customers manage their inventory. We do this using IoT devices (~22,000 vending machines), cloud-based web tools, and analytics. You will focus on the tools & software that run on our IoT devices, cloud-based software that enables us to manage themremotely andproviding abstractions for our partners to interact with connected hardware. Weare looking for someone who is excited to implementnew solutions.
You will report to an Engineering Manager and be based in Lake Forest or Chicago, IL
You Will:
- Write code in in Python, Rust, TypeScript/JavaScript, Kotlin & Bash
- Deploy working software to production early and often using containerized deployments, infrastructure as code, pipeline as code, and feature flagging techniques.
- Use XP engineering practices like pair programming, TDD, refactoring and more to ensure we're writing high-quality software in a sustainable way.
- Write automated tests using modern tools (e.g., pytest, tox, jest, or pact).
- Mentor junior engineers
- Collaborate with your Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, Product Manager, and UX to make sure requirements are clear and we're taking the best technical approaches.
- Work in a collaborative team environment with a focus on continuous improvement and learning.
Requirements
- 5+ years' experience as a Software Engineer.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience deploying software to the public cloud (AWS (Preferred), GCP, or Azure)
- Proficient in Python and Rust
- Experience with Typescript/JavaScript, Kotlin, & Bash
- Comfortable navigating and managing Linux systems
- Familiarity with IoT systems

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $124,200.00 - $207,000.00. This role is eligible for an incentive target of up to 15 % or $ , based on the achievement of individual and company performance objectives in accordance with the current terms of the incentive program which are subject to change., With benefits starting on day one, our programs provide choice and flexibility to meet team members' individual needs, including:
