Job description

The City of Katy is looking for a Systems Engineer I who enjoys solving problems and helping people. In this role, you'll be the go-to resource for employees needing IT support, while also playing an important part in keeping the City's technology secure, reliable, and running smoothly. What You'll Do

  • Be the first point of contact for IT questions and issues, providing friendly, helpful support to end users
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity problems and see them through to resolution
  • Log and manage service requests in the ITSM system, keeping everything organized and on track
  • Set up and maintain computers, laptops, and mobile devices so employees have the tools they need to succeed
  • Manage user accounts and access through Active Directory
  • Help keep systems secure and up to date with regular monitoring, patching, and updates
  • Work with senior IT staff on network, server, and infrastructure support when needed
  • Identify recurring issues and help implement long-term fixes
  • Support IT projects like system upgrades, new software rollouts, and equipment refreshes

Requirements

  • An associate degree in IT (or similar experience) and at least two years in a technical support role
  • A solid understanding of Windows, Microsoft Office, and basic networking concepts
  • A problem-solving mindset and a willingness to dig in and figure things out
  • Strong communication skills-you can explain technical issues in a way people understand
  • A team-oriented approach and a genuine desire to help others

Additional Details

  • Valid Texas driver's license required
  • Certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ are a plus
  • Primarily office-based, with occasional physical activity (lifting equipment up to 50 lbs)
  • Designated as Essential Critical Infrastructure personnel
