Job description
The Network/Voice Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network and unified communications systems for clients. This hybrid role includes both in-office work and on-site field visits for installations, escalations, and client support. The engineer ensures high availability, security, and performance across LAN, WAN, wireless, and VoIP infrastructures. The role also involves collaborating with Helpdesk and Systems Engineers to resolve complex issues, perform system upgrades, and implement network enhancements to meet client needs.
Core Responsibilities:
- Design, configure, and maintain client network infrastructure including routers, switches, and access points.
- Install, configure, and support VoIP systems, SIP trunks, and call routing configurations.
- Act as an escalation point for complex network or voice-related incidents from Helpdesk and Systems teams.
- Perform on-site fieldwork for installations, troubleshooting, and project implementations as required.
- Document network topology, configurations, and system changes in company documentation systems.
- Collaborate with vendors and carriers to resolve connectivity or service issues.
- Implement and maintain VPN, VLAN, and QoS configurations for optimal performance and reliability.
- Assist in planning and execution of network refreshes, migrations, and expansions.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours or critical escalation support.
Performance Metrics:
- Network uptime and system reliability across managed clients.
- Resolution rate and timeliness for escalated network/voice issues.
- Quality and accuracy of network documentation and configurations.
- Client satisfaction scores and feedback from field service engagements.
- Successful completion of installations, migrations, and upgrades on schedule.
- Adherence to security and compliance standards in network configurations.
Salary Range: $65,000 to $75,000 annual salary.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- This is a hybrid position requiring both in-office work and on-site client visits. Typical schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility for after-hours maintenance or emergency response as needed. The engineer must be able to travel locally to client sites and participate in the on-call rotation for critical issues or escalations., Eligible for advancement to Senior Network Engineer or Unified Communications Architect after demonstrating:
- Expert-level troubleshooting and design of multi-site and hybrid network environments.
- Leadership in client infrastructure upgrades and project planning.
- Strong documentation and mentorship contributions to junior engineers.
- High client satisfaction and reliability performance.
- Completion of advanced networking and voice certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent).
- Development of junior technical staff and contribution to organizational growth.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
Requirements
- 4-6 years of experience in network engineering, voice engineering, or related technical roles.
- Proficient in configuration and management of Cisco, Ubiquiti, Meraki, Fortinet, or similar platforms.
- Hands-on experience with VoIP systems such as 3CX, Cisco Call Manager, or Teams Phone System.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, QoS, routing, and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, etc.).
- Knowledge of firewall configuration and security best practices.
- Experience with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., PRTG, SolarWinds, or ConnectWise Automate).
- Ability to work independently in the field and collaborate effectively with remote teams.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for client visits
- Basic understanding of EDR concepts and their role in protecting endpoints (laptops, servers)
Education & Certifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Networking, or related field preferred. (substitute experience in lieu of degree)
- Certifications strongly preferred:
- Cisco CCNA or CCNP
- CompTIA Network+ or Security+
- Fortinet NSE 4+ or equivalent vendor certification
- VoIP or SIP-related certifications (e.g., 3CX Certified Engineer, Microsoft Teams Voice Specialist)
- ITIL Intermediate or Expert certification
