Job description
You will be responsible for designing and delivering data science projects for our clients and will have opportunities to contribute to Softwire's growing data science capability., This role combines hands-on technical work with consultancy. A Senior Data Scientist will:
- Scope, design and deliver high-quality data science projects end-to-end for our clients, owning technical delivery with limited oversight.
- Support our Principals in exploring & shaping client opportunities.
- Support technical quality with code and design reviews and by sharing best experimentation practice.
- Contribute to data science growth across our organisation as an active member of the Data and AI capability, supporting and sharing best practice with junior colleagues.
- Help shape how Softwire approaches data science: tooling, methodology, use case evaluation, and governance.
Requirements
We're looking for an experienced data scientist with strong technical skills and a track record of delivering data science solutions in the UK public or private sectors., You are a data scientist with proven expertise in the following:

Data analysis and predictive analytics

Computer vision

Natural language processing

MLOps and productionising models

You have expert knowledge of the Python ecosystem and core data science libraries, along with relevant tooling on major cloud platforms (PyTorch / TensorFlow / Keras, Scikit-learn, MLflow, Azure ML / SageMaker / Databricks).

You take an investigative approach to problems, using experiments and evidence to guide decisions.

You are comfortable taking an unclear business problem and shaping it into a data science approach that provides the client value, including recognising where ML isn't the right answer.

You have a track record designing, training and deploying models that deliver measurable benefits, with strong analytics and visualisation skills to communicate results.

You have a strong understanding of statistics, bias, AI ethics and model governance.

You take an active interest in ongoing developments in Data & AI and can speak knowledgeably about current industry trends.

You are an excellent communicator, able to clearly and confidently explain data science processes, experiments and outcomes to diverse audiences, tailoring your delivery as required.

You are keen to grow your impact beyond individual delivery: contributing to internal knowledge sharing, supporting business development conversations, and helping shape how we approach data science as a capability.

Prior experience in a consultancy/advisory context is a bonus, as is experience in at least one of our target sectors (Government & Public Sector, Financial Services & Insurance, Energy & Utilities, Transportation, Media & Entertainment, or Healthcare).
Benefits & conditions
Softwire operates transparent pay scales and a profit share scheme based on role and overall company performance.
- Base salary is based on experience and ranges from £59,400 - £78,800.
- You can expect to receive an average of between £5,750 and £11,250 in profit share depending on your experience and company performance.
- Pension: Additional 5% of salary.
- 25 days annual leave (with the option to buy and sell).
