Job description

Provide engineering support for MHPSA gas turbine related repair and manufacturing activities for both MHPS and selected Non-OEM gas turbines. The Shop Support Service Engineer I is a beginner to intermediate level engineering position that requires knowledge of engineering principles and experience in the application of principles. In this role, the engineer will demonstrate the capability to create and approve manufacturing qualification, process improvements, cost reductions, design improvements and capability to perform work assignments on a wide variety of routine tasks with limited supervision. In this role, the engineer will demonstrate the capability to perform normal work assignments without requiring detailed instruction, and will be given some degree of technical authority in these work assignments. The engineer will also be given technical assignments of increasing technical difficulty working under the supervision of more senior engineers or management. Key Responsibilities

  • Support technical development programs for gas turbine components in accordance with MHPSA design procedures for manufacturing qualification of new products and component upgrades both in house and suppliers.
  • Demonstrate creativity in the methods used when compiling solutions for manufacturing, operations, and repair issues (speed of delivery, quality, reliability, cost, & performance).
  • Support technical resolution of gas turbine field or manufacturing / repair issues using root cause analysis methods resulting in process improvements or design modifications.
  • Perform evaluation of non-conforming product to determine effect on reliability and performance while communicating with management to provide disposition with justification that meets the company's need.
  • Support other business units by researching and providing official responses to requests for technical clarifications, design changes, configuration definition, manufacturing process changes, etc.
  • Solicit and conduct the evaluation of ideas from manufacturing and suppliers for design changes to reduce cost and lead time.
  • Support development of repair criteria standards for gas turbine components.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet or exceed MHPSA and customer requirements.
  • Learn and apply knowledge of the overall configuration of the M501J, M501G, M501F, and W501F gas turbines, including how to access the reference drawings and specifications of these turbines.
  • Review and compare dimensional information obtained from field measurement to new manufacturing drawings to help resolve field discrepancies, identifying the likely issues, need for corrective actions and suggesting ways to correct the condition if required. This includes recommendations for welding procedures, clearance adjustments, and bolted joint assembly. Responses shall be reviewed by a manager;
  • Lead and support Root Cause and Corrective actions following 8D RCA process, including containment, root cause investigation, corrective action development, and validation.
  • Make suggestions for product and service improvements that will increase customer satisfaction with Mitsubishi products and services

Requirements

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university; and course work in the major field being associated with turbo-machinery.

  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of directly related engineering work experience is preferred (some work credit may be given for MS or PhD degrees based on the relevancy of the course and project experience).

  • The engineer should have experience in the area of supplier development and customer relations.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as weld fabrication, machining and common repair techniques used in manufacture of IGT components is also required. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry reports and technical journals. Ability to write technical reports and correspondence including customer reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Advanced personal computer skills including PI DataLink, Pro/ENGINEER, AutoCAD, Geomagic, Windchill, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access), etc.

  • Support ISO 9001 audits and compliance efforts

  • Availability for work after normal working hours, weekends, and holidays as required.

  • Some overnight travel (expected 5 to 15%) by land, air or sea.
