Job description
The ICT Engineer / IT Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation, security, and development of the School's IT systems and infrastructure. This role combines hands-on technical support with strategic input to ensure technology effectively supports teaching, learning, and business operations.
The postholder will deliver reliable IT services, maintain a secure and compliant environment, and contribute to the School's digital strategy., 1. IT Service Delivery & Support
- Provide 1st-3rd line technical support to staff and students
- Manage and prioritise incidents and requests through a structured support process
- Maintain high levels of customer service and clear communication
- Support classroom technology, including AV systems and interactive displays
- Provide occasional training to staff on core systems and tools
- Infrastructure & Systems Management
- Administer and maintain core systems including:
- Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace
- Identity management (Entra ID / Active Directory)
- Servers (on-premise and/or cloud)
- Network infrastructure (wired & wireless)
- Manage endpoint devices (Windows, macOS, iOS/Android) including patching and updates
- Maintain documentation of systems and configurations
- Cyber Security, Safeguarding & Compliance
- Ensure systems meet cybersecurity best practice (e.g. Cyber Essentials)
- Manage endpoint protection, monitoring, and vulnerability remediation
- Support safeguarding requirements including filtering and monitoring systems
- Assist with GDPR compliance including data protection and retention policies, specific
- Co-owner of GDPR compliance relating to CCTV with Data protection officer
- Maintain backup and disaster recovery processes
- Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Deliver IT projects (e.g. infrastructure upgrades, cloud migration, system rollouts)
- Work with the Bursar and Senior Leadership Team to develop an IT roadmap
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and user experience
- Contribute to updating of IT and wider school policies
- Supplier & Asset Management
- Liaise with external IT providers, vendors, and support partners
- Support procurement and lifecycle management of IT equipment
- Maintain accurate asset registers and licensing records
- School Operations Support
- Provide technical support for school events where required (e.g. AV setup)
- Ensure IT systems support both academic and administrative functions effectively
- Line management of apprentice
Requirements
Do you have experience in macOS?, Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience in an IT support or infrastructure role (typically 2-5+ years)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Microsoft 365 and/or Google Workspace
- Windows Server and/or cloud platforms (Azure)
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, switching, wireless)
- Experience supporting end users in a customer-facing environment
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently
- Good organisational and prioritisation skills
Desirable
- Experience working in an education environment
- Knowledge of MIS systems (e.g. SIMS, iSAMS, Arbor)
- Experience with device management tools (e.g. Intune, JAMF)
- Awareness of cybersecurity frameworks and best practice
- Relevant certifications (e.g. Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco)

Safeguarding & Compliance:

- Occasionally support school events outside of normal working hours e.g. school open days.
- Post holder must complete child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers, social media checks and a full DBS application.
- Adhere to protocol and respect confidentiality in all matters, protecting any data in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018.
- Support a safe and secure digital environment for pupils and staff, * Full-time role (typically Monday-Friday, 8:00-16:30 or similar)
- Occasional out-of-hours work required (e.g. maintenance or events)
- Any regular on-call expectations will be agreed in advance and supported through time off in lieu (TOIL)
Contract Duration:
This is a Fixed Term position for 6 to 12 months.
Pay: £29,173.00-£35,562.00 per year
