Job description
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Vice President for Information Security and Infrastructure Services, the Information Security Analyst provides entry-level support for information security activities that help protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of university data, systems, applications, networks, cloud services, and endpoint devices. This position assists with routine security endpoint patching, monitoring, vulnerability scanning, documentation, ticket follow-up in coordination with the Service Desk and other Technology Services units, and support for the implementation and maintenance of security controls in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
Requirements
- General knowledge of information security principles and concepts.
- Basic knowledge of networks, operating systems, and computer systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot routine technical issues and escalate more complex matters appropriately.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information.
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and professionally with others.
- Organizational and time management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
- Analytical skills to collect, analyze, and interpret application process problems and technology needs., + Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field. Relevant education, training, certifications, and/or experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
o Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
Entry-level certifications, such as CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, or AWS Cloud Practitioner.
Basic familiarity with security monitoring, log review, vulnerability scanning, and vulnerability management tools.
Basic familiarity with endpoint patching practices, including patch compliance monitoring and remediation tracking.
Basic familiarity with firewall and/or cloud security technologies.
Basic familiarity with reviewing reported phishing emails, related security alerts, and documenting findings.
Basic familiarity with identity and access support processes, such as account setup, changes, password resets, and permissions updates in systems such as Google Workspace and/or PeopleSoft.
Strong customer service, collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
