Job description
To deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment for the HTQ Level 4 Cyber Security Engineer qualification, preparing learners with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviours required for entry-level cyber security roles.
The role includes curriculum delivery, learner support, assessment, and contributing to curriculum development aligned with industry standards and employer needs., Teaching & Learning
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons across HTQ Level 4 Cyber Security units such as Cyber Security Principles, Networking Fundamentals, etc.
- Use a variety of teaching methods including lectures, labs, simulations, and project-based learning.
- Deliver both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical skills using industry tools (e.g., SIEM tools, Wireshark, Kali Linux, etc.).
- Support blended learning delivery (face-to-face and online).
Assessment & Quality Assurance
- Design and deliver assessments in line with HTQ/awarding body requirements.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to learners.
- Track student progress and maintain accurate records.
- Prepare for and engage in internal and external quality assurance processes.
- Ensure compliance with awarding body standards and guidelines.
Student Support & Progress
- Provide academic and pastoral support to learners.
- Monitor attendance, progression, and achievement.
- Offer guidance on career pathways in cyber security and IT.
- Support employability skills development aligned with industry expectations.
- Encourage learners to engage with industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CEH).
Curriculum Development
- Contribute to development and continuous improvement of the HTQ Cyber Security curriculum.
- Ensure content reflects current industry trends, tools, and cyber threats.
- Liaise with employers and industry partners to embed real-world relevance.
- Integrate emerging technologies and best practices.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of cyber security trends, threats, and technologies.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Teaching?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * Master's Degree or equivalent in Cyber Security, Computer Science, IT, Networking or related discipline.
- Teaching qualification (PGCE / Cert Ed / equivalent) or willingness to achieve within agreed timeframe.
- Level 6 or above qualification in Cyber Security or related field.
Essential Experience
- Experience delivering IT or Cyber Security training/teaching.
- Practical experience in cyber security, networking, or IT infrastructure.
- Experience with tools such as:
- Network monitoring (Wireshark, Nmap)
- Security tools (SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls)
- Operating systems (Windows, Linux, Windows Server)
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of:
- Cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and risk management
- Networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls)
- Security frameworks and compliance (ISO 27001, NIST basics)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
Desirable
- Industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CEH and other relevant MS Certifications).
- Experience delivering HTQ or BTEC qualifications.
- Experience using virtual labs or cyber ranges.
- Knowledge of cloud security (AWS, Azure, Defender XDR).
