Job description

The Director of Information Technology (IT) is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations, execution, and continuous improvement of Orbital Engineering's enterprise IT function across infrastructure, enterprise applications, cybersecurity, IT service management, end-user technologies, and software development operations. This is a fully remote position.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of IT, this role serves as the operational leader of the IT department, ensuring the stability, performance, security, and reliability of all technology services across the organization. The Director supports the VP of IT by driving execution of departmental priorities, maintaining operational discipline, managing team performance, and ensuring consistent delivery of IT services aligned with business needs.

This position oversees core business systems including UKG, Deltek Vantagepoint, Microsoft 365/Entra, Egnyte, Oracle, AWS, and enterprise networking platforms while supporting ongoing cybersecurity, compliance, and digital transformation initiatives. The Director also provides day-to-day leadership of internal software development and DevOps teams in partnership with the VP of IT, ensuring strong execution across application delivery, integrations, automation initiatives, reporting platforms, and operational support.

This role works closely with Operations, Finance, HR, TIN leadership, and business stakeholders to ensure technology services are responsive, efficient, and aligned with company priorities while supporting the VP of IT in executing the broader strategic roadmap.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Position duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

IT Operations Leadership

  • Lead the daily operations of the IT department across infrastructure, support services, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, and software development functions
  • Support the VP of IT in executing departmental priorities, operational initiatives, and enterprise technology objectives
  • Manage team performance, workload prioritization, service delivery expectations, and operational accountability across IT functions
  • Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of enterprise technology platforms and support services
  • Identify operational risks, service gaps, and improvement opportunities while driving timely resolution
  • Maintain strong cross-functional relationships with business leaders to ensure IT services effectively support business operations, * Oversee daily operations of networking, servers, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Microsoft 365, Entra), endpoint management, and identity/access administration
  • Ensure effective management of system performance, patching, backups, disaster recovery readiness, and infrastructure stability
  • Support platform modernization efforts including cloud migration, hardware lifecycle management, and technology standardization
  • Maintain operational procedures for asset management, business continuity, and service reliability

Cybersecurity, Compliance & Risk

  • Support the operational execution of cybersecurity controls in partnership with the Information Security & Compliance Manager, who owns cybersecurity governance and compliance oversight.
  • Support SOC 2 Type II readiness: evidence collection, control implementation, audit preparation, and continuous monitoring.
  • Maintain security tools, identity governance, vulnerability management, and incident response protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, data protection standards, vendor risk management, and security procedures, * Provide strategic oversight of Orbital's core enterprise applications, including Deltek Vantagepoint, UKG, Egnyte, Oracle Aconex, and Microsoft 365 collaboration tools.
  • Lead and support the Enterprise Systems Manager, who is responsible for day-to-day system administration, configuration, updates, integrations, and user support.
  • Ensure enterprise systems align with business processes across Operations, Finance, HR, and Project Management, driving efficiency and standardization.
  • Oversee enterprise application governance, security controls, permissioning standards, and application change management, in partnership with the Enterprise Systems Manager.
  • Collaborate with TIN managers to align IT architecture with product, data, and operational demands.

IT Service Management (ITSM) & Operations

  • Establish the overall IT service management framework, including SLAs, service delivery standards, and performance expectations.
  • Provide leadership and strategic guidance to the IT Support Manager, ensuring consistent execution of daily support operations.
  • Monitor incident response, request fulfillment, major incident management, and root cause resolution processes
  • Ensure service level expectations are met and continuous improvement opportunities are identified and implemented
  • Drive operational discipline across support workflows, user communication, and service quality

Software Development & DevOps Operations

  • Provide operational leadership of internal software development teams in close partnership with the VP of IT
  • Support teams responsible for application development, integrations, automation platforms, reporting solutions, and business intelligence initiatives
  • Ensure effective execution of software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes including code review, testing, release management, documentation, and production support

Vendor Management & Budgeting

  • Manage strategic vendor relationships for hardware, software, cloud services, and MSP partners.
  • Evaluate new technologies and cost-effective solutions that advance Orbital's enterprise architecture.
  • Assist the VP of IT with budgeting, forecasting, procurement planning, and cost management activities

Other Duties

Requirements

Do you have experience in Vendor relationship building?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field

  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience with at least 5 years in leadership roles managing enterprise technology operations
  • Experience leading day-to-day IT operations across infrastructure, enterprise systems, support services, and cybersecurity functions
  • Strong technical knowledge across infrastructure, networking, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, enterprise systems, and IT service management
  • Experience supporting SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST, or similar compliance and security frameworks
  • Proven success managing change, building operational processes, improving service delivery, and managing cross-functional technology teams, * Experience in engineering, construction, field services, industrial, or project-based professional services environments
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Cloud, AWS, Deltek Vantagepoint, UKG, Egnyte, Oracle, Power BI, and enterprise collaboration platforms
  • Certifications such as ITIL, CISSP, CISM, PMP, Azure Administrator, AWS Solutions Architect, or similar
  • Experience supporting digital transformation, automation, AI initiatives, or enterprise modernization efforts
  • Experience managing or supporting software development teams, DevOps operations, or application delivery functions
