Job description
As our in-house WordPress Website Developer, you'll be the go-to person for everything to do with our website. Day to day, that means keeping the platform running smoothly, managing holiday listings and bookings on the backend, and developing new features as the business grows.
This is not a standard WordPress role. Our site is built on a custom database-driven architecture with a complex booking system, automated email workflows, PDF generation, payment processing and more. You'll need to be comfortable working with custom PHP code, MySQL databases and third-party APIs. You will be working alongside the leadership of the company to shape our digital properties., * Keeping the site running - performance, security, uptime and updates (may need to log on during out of office hours - if required urgently).
- Managing holiday listings, pricing, dates and availability via the backend
- Handling booking admin: amending orders, updating passenger details, processing payments
- Exporting booking reports and customer data for the team
Development
- Building new features and improvements to the custom WordPress platform
- Working with our custom database architecture to extend admin interfaces
- Maintaining and improving PDF generation (ATOL certificates, booking confirmations, flight docs)
- Managing automated email workflows triggered by booking events
- Improving our CSV import/export system for holidays and flight data
- Optimising site performance and mobile experience
SEO & Content - Working with our Marketing Department
- Maintaining SEO-optimised destination and category pages
- Supporting the team with blog content uploads and formatting
Integrations
- Looking after Stripe payments, Google Analytics, Google Ads and Meta Pixel
- Supporting future integrations such as Xero, Google Maps and review platforms
Requirements
Do you have experience in WordPress?, * Solid experience with WordPress at a developer level - not just theme customisation
- Strong PHP skills with the ability to read, extend and write custom code
- Experience with custom post types, custom database tables and the WordPress admin API
- Good understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Confident working with MySQL databases
- Experience integrating third-party APIs
- Self-motivated, organised and able to communicate clearly with a non-technical team
Desirable Qualities:
- Experience with PDF generation libraries (e.g. TCPDF, mPDF or Dompdf)
- Familiarity with Stripe's API
- Experience building automated email systems within WordPress
- Knowledge of a front-end framework (React, Vue or similar)
- Experience with Google Analytics 4 or Google Tag Manager
- A love of travel, walking or the outdoors is always a bonus!, * website development: 3 years (required)
