Job description

The Senior IT 3rd Line Engineer will act as the highest technical escalation point for day-to-day operations, helping to resolve complex issues, improve technical standards, and support the development of the wider IT team - without people management responsibility., We are looking for an experienced Senior IT 3rd Line Engineer to provide deep technical expertise, leadership, and stability across our Microsoft-based infrastructure.

This is a hands-on senior role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, owning difficult escalations, mentoring others, and improving how systems and services are delivered.

You will work closely with IT management and suppliers on major incidents, upgrades, and improvements, helping to shape how technology is supported and evolved across the business., * Act as the final escalation point for complex, high-impact technical issues

  • Provide senior-level 3rd line support across Windows Server, Microsoft 365 and core infrastructure
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions
  • Define, improve and maintain technical standards, documentation and best practice
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to 2nd and 3rd line engineers
  • Technically lead and support infrastructure and platform projects
  • Own complex system changes, upgrades, patching and risk remediation
  • Work closely with suppliers and third parties on advanced technical issues
  • Contribute to security hardening, resilience and service stability initiatives
  • Participate in a paid out-of-hours on-call rota, acting as senior escalation when required

Tech exposure & environment

You will work across a broad and evolving IT estate, including:

  • Windows Server infrastructure (design, troubleshooting, upgrades)
  • Microsoft 365 platform and services
  • Virtualised platforms and associated storage technologies
  • Networking technologies, protocols and routing
  • IT security controls, hardening and remediation activities
  • Telephony and call-centre platforms
  • Backup, disaster recovery and resilience tooling
  • Automation and scripting (e.g. PowerShell)
  • ITIL-aligned incident, problem and change management processes

This role offers wide technical exposure and genuine influence over how systems are supported and improved.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driving License license?, Do you have experience in Virtualization?, * Significant experience in a senior 3rd line or infrastructure support role

  • Expert-level knowledge of Windows Server and Microsoft technologies
  • Strong experience with virtualisation and complex infrastructure troubleshooting
  • Proven ability to resolve high-impact, business-critical incidents
  • Strong understanding of security, operational risk and resilience
  • Experience working closely with suppliers and third-party providers
  • Ability to mentor and technically guide other engineers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable operating autonomously with technical authority
  • Flexibility to work out of hours and across sites as required
  • Clean driving licence

Desirable experience

  • Microsoft or infrastructure-related certifications
  • Advanced PowerShell or automation experience
  • Linux / Unix exposure
  • NAS / SAN and enterprise backup platforms
  • Experience influencing technical standards or service improvements
