Job description

The Senior MuleSoft Integration Developer (Programmer IV) performs advanced (senior-level) computer programming work and serves as a senior technical contributor and technical lead on integration initiatives. Work involves analyzing business and technical requirements, designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise integration solutions using MuleSoft's Anypoint Platform.

The position works closely with Application Development, DevOps, Project Management, and DFPS business areas to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable API and integration solutions. This role works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions

(35%)

Works on highly complex applications to provide software development methods and techniques; establishes and promotes development standards including programming, documentation, testing, and integration standards to ensure quality and maintainability across multiple IT projects.

  • Designs, develops, deploys, and maintains RESTful and SOAP-based APIs and integration flows using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform
  • Utilizes MuleSoft tools including Anypoint Studio, API Manager, and Runtime Manager
  • Writes scalable, secure, and highly available integration solutions following software engineering best practices
  • Develops and maintains technical design documents, interface specifications, and integration documentation in accordance with agency SDLC and PMLC guidelines
  • Performs application development and enhancement activities in a maintenance and support capacity as required

Collaborates with Application Development, DevOps, Project Management, and Agency Program teams in the execution of enterprise-level strategies and technical direction.

  • Communicate effectively with management and project stakeholders
  • Translates business requirements into technical integration and API specifications
  • Performs code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, continuous integration, and continuous deployment activities
  • Participates in Agile project planning, estimation, sprint activities, and release management
  • Oversee studies and preparation of reports including findings, recommendations, and instructions for proposed system and integration implementations
  • Ensures non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, availability, reliability, and security are consistently met

Provides technical leadership on projects and agency initiatives related to integration and programming activities and may act as a technical team lead.

  • Mentors and guides junior technical staff
  • Implements and enforces API security standards including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and SAML
  • Identifies, investigates, and resolves complex integration and production issues
  • Oversees troubleshooting and problem resolution related to enterprise applications and integrations
  • Participates in peer code walkthroughs and technical design reviews
  • Formulates logical problem definitions and devises optimal technical solutions
  • Coordinates and performs research and analysis required for project proposals, system enhancements, and new integration initiatives

Adheres to all Texas Department of Family and Protective Services HR policies and performs related work as assigned., As a state agency, DFPS is required by Texas Administrative Code (TAC 206 and 213) to ensure all Electronic Information Resources (EIR) follow accessibility standards. The staff must be familiar with the WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 to create accessible content including but not limited to; Microsoft Office documents, Adobe PDFs, webpages, software, training guides, video, and audio files.

Requirements

Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Advanced knowledge of MuleSoft API and integration development using Anypoint Platform

  • Strong knowledge of Java and/or .NET, middleware, Mule ESB, and SOA concepts
  • Strong understanding of API governance, MuleSoft best practices, and API-led connectivity
  • Fluency with web service standards including REST, SOAP, XML, and JSON
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and data integration concepts
  • Knowledge of modern design patterns, object-oriented analysis, and application architecture
  • Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall development methodologies
  • Knowledge of SDLC standards including programming, documentation, and testing practices
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools and processes such as Jira, Bitbucket, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of public, private, and hybrid cloud environments
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, at all organizational levels
  • Ability to lead development activities and provide technical guidance to project teams

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications

MuleSoft certifications preferred but not required.

Initial Screening Criteria

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Administration (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field (Relevant experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis)

  • At least five (5) years of IT experience in software development

  • At least three (3) years contributing to or leading software development projects

  • At least two (2) years of hands-on MuleSoft API and integration development

  • Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Application Development (Java / .NET / MuleSoft / Middleware)
  • Enterprise Integration
  • Data or Infrastructure Services
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
